If you have children in your family, please talk to them about the dangers of venturing onto frozen water.
We're backing Derbyshire’s firefighters and Derbyshire Water Safety Partnership in appealing to people to keep off and away from areas of frozen water – no matter how safe they look.
 Falling into icy water can lead to cold water shock – causing muscle cramps making it impossible to swim, difficulty breathing, panic, a rise in blood pressure as your body tries to keep warm, and even cardiac arrest.
No matter what the circumstances, if a person or animal is in difficulty – do not attempt to enter the water to rescue them – call 999 immediately.

We’re helping to fund the programme again for the second year running with the aim of connecting and supporting local organisations while showcasing our county’s businesses to future customers and investors.
The festival, which will run until 31 March 2023, offers a wide range of events online and at venues across Derbyshire.

Don't forget you can apply to us for your child’s infant, junior or primary school place for September 2023.
If you have a child who was born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019 you need to get your primary school application in to us by Sunday 15 January 2023.
You can also apply during the same period for junior school places for children born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 who are currently in year 2 at an infant school and will transfer on to other schools in September 2023.
Applying online is quick and easy and allows you to make changes to your application at any point up to the closing date. You'll be asked to list, in order of preference, the three schools you'd most like your child to go to. You'll get an email to confirm your application's been received.

Could your business or organisation use help to reduce your energy costs and cut carbon emissions?
Our Green Entrepreneurs Fund has already awarded £715,000 to businesses and organisations.
But now changes made to the eligibility criteria for the programme’s Small Grants Fund mean even more businesses and organisations will be able to access funding to help implement green energy plans to reduce their energy costs.

Why don't you plan a visit to our museum and art gallery in Buxton this winter?
You can catch works by budding artists as well as established artist David Lowther.
Artwork 2022’ features paintings and artworks by young people from Buxton Community School and St Thomas More Catholic School in Buxton. The exhibition showcases the amazing talent of more than 25 students who presented work for GSCE and A-Level examinations.
Two of these artists, Millie Critchlow and Nell Darley (her painting 'James' is right), have been awarded Star Student status by The Arts Society and the Royal Society of British Artists.

They will both have their paintings exhibited in London in the new year.
Another exhibition by a High Peak artist also opens in December at our museum and art gallery in Terrace Road. David Lowther's ‘Farm on the Hill’ is his exhibition of works in a variety of media over many seasons.
Artwork 2022 is on show until 11 February 2023 and Farm on the Hill until 25 February 2023.
Buxton Museum and Art Gallery will be open throughout the Christmas holidays except for the bank holidays and Sundays.
The museum is also a designated 'warm space' where visitors will find a friendly welcome, exhibitions to browse, somewhere to sit, people to chat to and activities to take part in. Visitors can stay for as long as they like, in safe and well-lit surroundings. Everyone is welcome.
