Remembrance at County Hall

Dignitaries and officers were among those who gathered at County Hall in Matlock today (Friday 11 November) for a Remembrance Day service to honour the service and sacrifice of all who have served to defend our freedoms and protect our way of life.

Following a two-minute silence, the names of fallen council officers were read out by our Civic Chairman Councillor David Wilson.

Guest of honour at the service was Royal Navy and D-Day veteran Albert Keir, 97, who holds a Légion d'honneur.

A number of wreaths, including one honouring animals that served in war, were laid at the memorial inside County Hall.

Homes for the future

Do you own your own home? We're asking private homeowners what support they need to make their homes more energy efficient.

energy efficiency homes

Together with the county’s eight district and borough councils, we have launched the consultation to find out what local homeowners think would help them to make home improvements needed to reduce their energy use.

Steps people can take to make their homes more energy efficient range in cost and scale and can include measures such as double or triple glazing, loft insulation, solar panels and switching from a gas boiler to an air or ground source heat pump.

The closing date to share your views is 20 January.

A 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone have been put in place to help prevent the spread of the disease, also known as bird flu.

If you keep birds in these control zones, you must follow increased safety measures and follow the restrictions that have been put in place as a legal requirement.

Our highways officers will be putting road signs in place to warn people when they are entering the 10km surveillance zone.

But did you know that Illuminos, the internationally renowned duo behind the awe-inspiring animations being projected onto the county’s buildings, are Derbyshire lads Matt and Rob Vale?

Iluminos

Fresh from staging the first two events at Cromford Mills last month, the brothers say Shine A Light  has a special place in their heart bringing back memories of growing up in Buxton and Matlock.

Rob (right) said: “Having these stories to tell about places in Derbyshire that are so familiar to us is really special. It’s this brilliant mix of creating something in a space we’ve grown up around, yet discovering all these stories and characters that we didn’t know about, guided by the people who know and love the spaces.”

You can catch Shine A Light at Elvaston on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November before it moves to Barrow Hill Roundhouse – the last surviving railway roundhouse in the United Kingdom with an operational turntable – on 8 and 9 December, then Hardwick Hall on 17 and 18 February 2023.

We caught up with Rob ahead of the show to find out a bit more
