Winter vaccinations

winter vaccinations

Vaccines are the best protection we have against dangerous viruses like flu and Covid-19.

That's why eligible people are being offered free flu vaccinations and Covid-19 boosters this year.

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to adults who:

  • are 50 and over (including those who will be 50 by 31 March 2023)
  • have certain health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • are in long-stay residential care
  • receive a carer's allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • live with someone who is more likely to get a severe infection due to a weakened immune system.

If you're eligible for the free flu vaccine, it's likely you can also get the coronavirus (COVID-19) seasonal booster. Getting both vaccines is important because:

  • more people are likely to get flu this winter
  • you're more likely to be seriously ill if you get flu and COVID-19 at the same time

It's safe to have both vaccines at the same time, but you need to book them separately.

Stress Awareness Week

All of us will experience stress at some point - but ongoing stress can have serious impacts on your health and wellbeing.

During Stress Awareness Week we're looking at ways to deal with stress, and also how to spot if it’s becoming an issue.

Stress can cause many different symptoms. It might affect how you feel physically, mentally and also how you behave.

Find out more about stress, and how to deal with it on the NHS website here.

The Five Ways to wellbeing are simple, everyday things we can all do to help boost our mood and reduce stress. Find out more, and get some inspiration at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/wellbeing

Free school meals

free school meals

Calling all parents and carers - have you checked your child's eligibility for free school meals? It could save you a considerable amount of money.

You can sign up for free school meals at any time of year.

You do not have to fill in a separate form for each child, even if they go to different schools. Just name the child and which school they go to.

If another of your children starts school and one of your children already has free school meals, we can add them to the application you already have. Just call the free school meals team:

Andy Burton tel: 01629 536481  Monday to Friday
Sue Upton tel: 01629 535743 Wednesday (pm), Thursday and Friday
