 Thousands of beacons were lit across the country and the Commonwealth to mark the Queen's 70 years on the throne, including ours at Grin Low near Buxton.
Derbyshire Vice Lord Lieutenant Colonel John Wilson OBE DL lit our Platinum Jubilee beacon at Solomon’s Temple on 2 June with our Civic Chairman Councillor David Wilson, High Sheriff Michael Copestake and Bishop of Derby, the Right Reverend Libby Lane.
There is a long tradition of celebrating royal jubilees, weddings and coronations with the lighting of beacons. A beacon chain, once used as a tool for communication, has now become a symbol of unity across towns, borders, countries and continents.

This work and our investment in improvements in footpaths across the county, has been praised by Peak District Local Access Forum.
We spend around £1 million a year on maintaining and improving footpaths and bridleways across Derbyshire, and recently improved the footpath pictured above, which is near Bonsall in the Derbyshire Dales.

Have you ever wondered how the honours system works and how you can nominate someone deserving that you know?
 The government is running a week of free honours-related events which will take place virtually from the 14 to 17 June.
You can hear stories from a variety of inspirational recipients of honours (like OBEs, MBEs etc.) and special guest speakers, while taking the opportunity to learn more about the UK honours system and how you can make your own nomination for someone amazing.
The Environment Agency is closing Matlock Bridge to all traffic (pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles) from 7am on Monday until early August to enable preparations for essential flood prevention work to be carried out.
The next stage of work is to alter the road in order to allow two-way traffic over Matlock Bridge for the next 18 months.
Once this work on the bridge is complete, the A6 at Derwent Way will be closed so a large crane can be situated on the A6 to carry out the necessary work on reinstating the flood defences. All traffic going north and south will then be able to use Matlock Bridge.
