We’re taking a moment to say a big thank you to our longest serving crossing patrol Suzanne Wetton who is hanging up her yellow jacket and ‘lollipop’ sign after 43 years.
Suzanne will be much-missed by the community in Crich where she has been helping children and their grown-ups to cross the road safely for more than four decades.
Read more about Suzanne’s story and her memories from her work through the years.
We’re recruiting school crossing patrols across the county. Could you be one of them? Find out more and apply.

Do you ever think about the health of your teeth, gums and mouth? National Smile Month runs from 16 May to 16 June and it’s the ideal time to think about all things oral health related. So Let’s Talk Teeth!
Tooth decay and gum disease are the most common oral health problems – but they are largely preventable with the right oral health routine.
Poor oral health can affect your overall health but if your mouth is healthy, it is easier to chew, taste, swallow, speak, and smile.
Oral health is in your hands and all it takes is a few simple steps every day to ensure you have healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime – and it could save you on costly dental treatments too.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the children across the county who worked hard to create some wonderful entries for the flag competition run by our libraries service to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
We received more than 200 entries and we’re excited to congratulate the winners – Aden, Charlotte and Alora.
And well done to the runners up – Benjamin, Autumn, Emily, Noah, Isobel and Freddie and everyone else who was involved.
You can see more entries in this video.
Do you know a Net Zero Hero? There’s still time to send us your nominations.
We’re shining the spotlight on everyday people helping cut carbon emissions in Derbyshire to make the UK and the wider world a greener place – people like Darcie Cousins from Hognaston.
When Darcie was unsuccessful in her search for a local refill shop she took matters into her own hands and set up her own mobile zero waste shop called Refills on the Road.
Read more about Darcie's story and find out who else has been nominated.
If you know someone who deserves recognition for going one step greener for the planet nominate them here.
Plans to build a major regeneration route in Derbyshire which would relieve congestion and open up new opportunities for jobs and homes have won substantial backing from people living in the area.
More than 370 people took part in a consultation about proposals for the Chesterfield Staveley Regeneration Route which will include building a new 3.7 mile single-carriageway road between the Sainsbury’s Roundabout in Chesterfield, across Works Road, and through to Hall Lane in Staveley.
More than 60% of comments were in favour of the project which could reduce daily traffic volumes by up to 75% on Chesterfield Road in Staveley, and by up to 45% on the Chesterfield Road Crematorium area and Ringwood Road at Brimington.

Our new Civic Chairman is former soldier and businessman Councillor David Wilson.
Councillor Wilson, who was appointed to the role at our Full Council and AGM earlier this week takes over from Councillor Jean Wharmby, who was praised at the meeting for her hard work and dedication.
The Civic Chairman’s role is to be an ambassador for Derbyshire and link between the county council and local community bodies. Councillor Wilson will be supported by Civic Vice Chairman Councillor David Taylor, and Councillor Trevor Ainsworth remains council Chairman.
Councillor Wilson was a soldier for 25 years before working for HM Customs and Excise and then running his own business, and he is an active member of the Royal British Legion.
