Primary school places offered

Primary, infant and junior school places in Derbyshire have been announced.

School places

We made offers of places to approximately 10,600 children on Tuesday.

Of those parents who applied for a reception place by the closing date, 95.3% were offered their first-choice school. Overall, of those who applied by the closing date, 98.6% were offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.

And of those who applied for a junior place by the deadline, 97.9% were offered a place at their first-choice school and 98.8% were offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.

The small number of parents who have not been offered a place for their child at their preferred school have the right of appeal to an independent panel.

Let's get waste sorted

recycling Craig Capper of Martin’s Waste and Cllr Carolyn Renwick

Do you remember to sort your waste before you take it to your local household waste recycling centre?

Staff at our recycling centres have recently seen lots of examples of visitors putting bags of mixed waste in the non-recyclable items skip. These bags were found to contain recyclable things like plastic bottles, textiles and cardboard.

It'd really help us, and Derbyshire council tax payers, if you could please sort your waste before paying the tip a visit. You can find a full list of what can and can’t be recycled here

Disposal of all waste across the county currently costs council tax payers around £42million per year.

Pictured right are Craig Capper of Martin’s Waste Management and our Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Environment, Councillor Carolyn Renwick, finding items that should be recycled among the general waste.

Recycling mobility equipment

We're asking anyone who has unwanted mobility equipment at home to take it to their local household waste recycling centre so it can be used by somebody else.

community mobility equipment recycling

The scheme is running now at our recycling centres at Loscoe, Stonegravels, Ashbourne, Northwood (Darley Dale) and Bolsover. There are plans to roll out the scheme to our other sites at Bretby, Ilkeston and Waterswallows (Buxton) later this year.

So far 450 items have been recovered and of these 350 (78%) were returned to warehouse shelves for re-use with just the remaining 100 going for recycling.

Larger pieces of equipment, including electrical kit, will continue to be collected by Medequip from people’s homes.

Pictured are our Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Councillor Natalie Hoy (left) and Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Environment, Councillor Carolyn Renwick, with some of the returned items.

Drop-in sessions at Killamarsh library

People living in and around Killamarsh will get the opportunity to find out more about plans to move the library into the nearby newly refurbished sports centre and the benefits it will bring at two community drop-in sessions.

Discussions around our library moving into North East Derbyshire District Council’s Killamarsh Sports Centre began in spring 2021 and as the sports centre gets closer to re-opening its doors after its £1.9 million refurbishment, firm plans are now being put in place for the move.

Two drop-in sessions are being held at the library, currently in Sheffield Road, so that library users and anyone with an interest in the move and the newly refurbished sports centre and community hub can meet library staff and a representative from the district council to ask questions and give their views.

The drop-in sessions, to be held at the current library site, are:

  • Tomorrow, Friday 22 April from 2pm to 5pm
  • Wednesday 27 April from 10am to midday.
