 We want to say thank you to everyone doing their bit to help by giving them the recognition they deserve.
Anyone can be nominated as a Net Zero Hero if they:
- live, work or attend school in Derbyshire
- aren’t paid officials in an environmental capacity, just everyday people going One Step Greener for the planet
- have found meaningful ways to take positive environmental action by changing their own habits or lifestyle or helping others to do so, peacefully and without engaging in anti-social activity or behaviour.
You can nominate a Net Zero Hero. With their permission, we’ll share their story on our website and social media channels to recognise their efforts and inspire others to take action themselves.

Are you looking for personalised support to help you get back into work, education or training? – or do you know someone who is?
We’re supporting the Towards Work project which helps Derbyshire residents to overcome barriers and get on the road to gaining employment.
The scheme offers free tailored one-to-one support for around 12 months including supporting an individual to remove barriers preventing them to move on in their journey. This is followed by CV building and interview skills, support with costs for childcare, travel, work equipment and gaining qualifications and up to a further three months support once you get a job.
It's open to anyone who lives in Derbyshire and is over the age of 16, but 15 year-olds who are not in work, education, or training or are at risk of falling into this group are also eligible.
Towards Work is part of the Building Better Opportunities Programme, which is jointly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund via D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

We're launching two consultations because we want your views on both our support for people who are autistic and/or have learning disabilities, and how we support older people to live independently.
Learning disability support
You'll be able to have your say on our proposals to change some day services so that people with learning disabilities and/or who are autistic can lead the lives they choose to.
The plans recognise that everyone has the potential to be an active part of their community, leading safe, fulfilling lives with as much independence as possible and equal access to opportunities including social and leisure activities, housing, jobs, training, volunteering, health, and transport.
Independent living services for older people
We're going to consult on proposals to re-design our Older People’s Independent Living Service so that we can provide support equally across the county, and promote independence, rather than dependence.
If you run a hospitality business that serves food directly to the public, we're urging you to make sure you and your staff are trained and are able to help customers with allergies.
Businesses must provide information to customers about whether the meals they serve contain any of 14 allergens, including common ones like peanuts and gluten to less well known triggers for allergic reactions such as mustard and celery.
Around two million people in the UK suffer from allergies, including 2% of adults and 8% of children.

We opened a new £13.2m school in Alfreton last week.
The new Alfreton Park School replaces old, out-dated and unsuitable facilities at the old school.
The new single-storey school will expand the teaching and other facilities. There are 12 classrooms, six group rooms, including specialist therapy rooms and soft play areas, and a combined hall and dining area, it will have space for up to 120 students.
You're invited to have your say on a new Minerals Local Plan for Derby and Derbyshire.
The draft plan will help us and Derby City Council make decisions about planning applications for new quarries or extracting minerals until 2038 in Derby and Derbyshire outside of the Peak District National Park.
The plan also sets out measures to avoid and minimise potential environmental impacts of mineral extraction or quarrying which can raise concerns for local communities.
Two new exhibitions featuring work by Peak District artists have opened at our museum and art gallery in Buxton.
In one of the exhibitions, Treasuring Trees, three artists celebrate trees using watercolours, photography, poetry, storytelling and puppetry.
The other exhibition, Twenty Twenty...and Beyond, is of work by members of the Chapel Camera Club.
Both exhibitions seek to record aspects of how the COVID-19 pandemic affected people.
Treasuring Trees continues until Wednesday 9 June. Twenty Twenty...and Beyond is exhibited until Monday 2 May.
You can visit Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, in Terrace Road, from 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday, and bank holiday Monday 2 May. Admission is free.

Choirs are invited to take part in Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons Song for the Commonwealth performances.
When beacons are lit across the country on 2 June 2022 to mark the Platinum Jubilee, to add to the occasion a new song will be sung by different choirs of all sizes and age groups at the different locations. The song was chosen by competition and is called A Life Lived with Grace by Vincent Atueyi Chinemelu and Lucy Kiely.

New proposals to build a road linking Chesterfield and Staveley have been drawn-up to cut congestion and open up land for employment and housing.
We're asking residents and commuters for their views on the proposals for the £130 million Chesterfield Staveley Regeneration Route before finalising our approach to government for funding for the project.
The project is designed to cut the amount of traffic using the A619 through Brimington, Hollingwood and Staveley, reducing issues with traffic delays and queuing, HGVs passing residential property, and improving noise and air quality.
