New restrictions and guidance have been announced by the Government as part of its move to Plan B to help prevent the spread if the Covid-19 Omicron variant.
- People are asked to work from home if they can from Monday (13 December)
- Face masks are now compulsory in most public indoor venues, other than hospitality
- Anyone visiting a nightclub and some other large events will need to show they’re fully vaccinated, have had a negative test result in the last 48 hours, or have an exemption, before being allowed entry.
It’s important that everyone remains vigilant to help protect themselves and loved ones by preventing the virus from spreading further.
In addition to the measures mentioned above, that means keeping on with regular handwashing and keeping rooms well-ventilated – particularly if you’re mixing with other households.
Getting fully vaccinated and regular testing remain the best ways to stay safe and if you haven’t yet had the vaccine, it’s not too late – you can book an appointment online at www.nhs.uk
The first steps towards creating a lasting memorial parkland to remember and honour local people who died from COVID-19 and pay tribute to the work of the NHS have been taken with the planting of the first trees.
A ceremony held earlier this week saw Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis and Civic Chairman Councillor Jean Wharmby help to plant a Japanese flowering cherry tree at Grassmoor Country Park near Chesterfield.

Think of winter and grass verges aren’t the first thing to spring to mind.
But we joined with district and borough councils across Derbyshire this week, together with specialists in biodiversity, to look at how we manage grass verges and what we can do to improve them for the benefit of nature and the environment.
There is a growing call for councils across the country to leave the grass to grow longer in order to promote biodiversity and help to combat climate change, and to cut rural verges in a way that supports more wildlife, yet still leave junctions visible so road safety is not affected.
