Around £2m has been given to projects to help boost businesses, create jobs and improve the career prospects of residents in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales following our bids for government cash.
Funding from the government’s UK Community Renewal Fund has been awarded to the following.
Better Futures project – £500,000
This pilot project will help unemployed people primarily in the Derbyshire Dales to improve their skills and find work locally. It will also help to improve the skills of residents who have recently found work, are at risk of unemployment, in part-time roles but wish to go full time or are highly skilled but in low paid, low-skilled jobs.
Derbyshire Accelerator project – £1.48 million
This will help fund a number of initiatives in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.
Do you keep birds? An outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed at a commercial premises in South Derbyshire.
The case of H5N1 avian influenza, also known as bird flu, was confirmed after a visit to the premises near Willington by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) this week.
Further testing has confirmed this to be a highly pathogenic strain (HPAI H5N1).
A 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone have been put in place around the infected premises to limit the risk of the disease spreading.
Our trading standards officers are working closely with emergency planning colleagues and Derby City Council, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and APHA to control the outbreak.
All keepers of birds in the disease control zones must follow increased measures while the restrictions are in place as a legal requirement.
