People who live and work in Gamesley and Glossopdale are asked to get tested regularly for Covid-19 following an outbreak suspected to be linked to the Indian variant of the virus.
Derbyshire’s Director for Public Health Dean Wallace has said that while the number of cases in Gamesley and Glossopdale overall are relatively low, they almost doubled from 24 cases confirmed between 21 April and 4 May to 45 cases confirmed between 5-18 May – including 14 cases suspected to be the new Indian strain that spreads more easily.
If you live or work in the area you can help by getting tested regularly. Find out about where you can get tested here
Anyone with the main coronavirus symptoms – a high temperature, a new continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – should go for a test and self-isolate immediately. If you do have to self-isolate you may be eligible for a support payment of £500.
People are being asked to keep a look out for a wider range of symptoms which could be a sign that they have the virus including a tummy ache, sore throat, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, feeling or being sick, headaches, joint pain, muscle ache, runny nose, sneezing, feeling drowsy, tiredness, muscle aches or generally feeling poorly.
Anyone living and working in the rest of the High Peak is being encouraged to take a rapid lateral flow test twice a week at one of our Community Testing Centres or at home. These tests can be taken at home and give results in 30 minutes.
Home testing kits are free and can be ordered online to be delivered to your home or you can pick a pack up from many of Derbyshire’s pharmacies.

We have started work on a £10 million programme to resurface and surface dress roads across the county.
Over the next year we will be resurfacing or surface dressing parts of more than 325 roads across Derbyshire.
During March and April this year our highways workers and an external contractor have been busy getting these roads ready to be resurfaced or surface dressed by filling in any potholes and fixing any defects.
Last week contractors started work on our road resurfacing programme and will start on the surface dressing programme in July 2021.
