This April - we're working hard to ensure that you can still access library resources. Please take a look below to find out what is on offer.

Chesterfield Library

Library Closures

As you know, all 45 Derbyshire County Council-run libraries, the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery and the Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock temporarily closed from 5pm on Friday 20 March to protect staff and customers using the services from the risk of coronavirus and to help to prevent its spread. Our two mobile libraries have also been taken off the road for the foreseeable future.

A date has not been set for the services to re-open but it is estimated they could remain closed for at least 12 weeks. Library customers who have borrowed items from their library are being advised to hold on to them until they can return them when their local service re-opens. All items currently on loan will be renewed and all fines will be waived.

Learn My Way

Learn My Way & Make it Click

If you'd like to keep your digital skills up to date, or spend some time developing new ones, don't forget about The Good Things Foundation's 'Learn My Way' site, which has free lessons on all-things digital, right from how to use a mouse and keyboard when you first start out, and progressing onto emails, online safety, and much more.

'Make it Click' is a section of the site that contains their Skills Directory for people already confident with how to use the internet, and who are looking for work, to switch careers, or start their own business. They have updated it with our current situation in mind to have a very useful section on Working From Home (look under 'Subjects').

Book Recommendations

This Month We Recommend You Read...

We're looking this month to some of the excellent children's books we have available on our eBook and eAudiobook collections, which are great choices to share with your family.

On Borrowbox's eBook page, for primary age children we've picked Natasha Farrant's brilliant 'The Children of Castle Rock', the adventurous story of Alice and her time at the boarding school, Stormy Loch Academy, as she and two friends set out to find her missing father. It's hilarious and moving, and we loved reading it!

Also on Borrowbox, for young adult age this time, is Rowena House's 'The Goose Road'. In France, 1916,  Angélique Lacroix must travel across the country with her brother's flock of magnificent Toulouse Geese to raise money for food, after their harvest fails. It's a brilliant chance to examine the effect that the First World War had on those that stayed behind in other countries.

Over on RBdigital, we've got one of the best narrated eAudiobooks we've ever heard! Jessica Townsend's 'Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow' is the story of Morrigan Crow, plucked from a life where she's been marked for death by the eccentric Jupiter North, and taken to the land of Nevermoor where she must undertake the trials to join The Wundrous Society. Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy from Game of Thrones) is utterly incredible playing the cast of characters, and we're sure it'll have you and your children giggling like mad!

Need a further suggestion? We're always delighted to suggest a story! Contact us on Facebook, Twitter, or ask.library@derbyshire.gov.uk and we'll do our best to find you something fantastic!
