Derbyshire Record Office Consultation
Our Record Office is home to 1,000s of archives dating back 900 years, and is used by dozens of people every week, from students researching papers to people piecing together their family trees.
A proposal to review opening hours and staffing levels at the Derbyshire Record Office (DRO) was agreed by our Cabinet in September as part of its 5-Year Financial Plan.
The 5-Year Financial Plan details savings of £63m that we need to achieve over the next 5 years, and reviewing the opening hours and staffing levels at the DRO could save £60,000.
A 6-week consultation was launched on Monday 11th November 2019 so that people can have their say on the proposals to reduce opening hours.
The Record Office, on New Street, Matlock, is currently open for 4 days a week for a total of 30 hours and it opens on 1 Saturday a month.
The consultation gives people the opportunity to have their say on the proposals which will reduce the opening hours to 22.5 hours per week. The current Saturday opening pattern will remain unchanged.
Four alternative proposals are being put forward, based on the current levels of use, and people can have their say either by completing our Derbyshire Record Office questionnaire.
You can also request a paper copy of the questionnaire by email alison.bailey@derbyshire.gov.uk or pick one up at the Record Office.
The consultation closes on Sunday 22 December 2019.

This Month We Recommend You Read...
This is what we think you should request from our online catalogue this month...
In children's fiction we have the next book in Dave Pilkey's popular 'Dog Man' series, 'Fetch-22'. Petey the Cat, recently out of jail, must team up with Dog Man to help show Li'l Petey that there's still good in the world - if only they can stop fighting long enough to do it!
In Children's non-fiction, we're getting ready for the release of the latest Star Wars film with 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Galactic Guide'. Perfect for younger Star Wars fans who want to devour everything about the last film in the Skywalker saga!
In adult fiction we recommend 'Mind Games' by Leona Deakin. Four strangers are missing, with the only clue being birthday cards reading 'Your gift is the game. Dare to play?' left at their last-known locations. Can Dr Augusta Bloom solve the mystery to stop more people going missing? The perfect thriller to snuggle up with and forget about those winter chills!
