Can you lend a helping hand?

September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day and a series of football matches are helping to raise awareness of this growing issue.

We’re looking for volunteers to help raise awareness of the mental health support and advice on offer by engaging fans in conversation and handing out leaflets. 

You'll need to arrive an hour and a half before kick off and can then attend the match for free.

Professional support from the Samaritians and other mental health charities will also be on hand during the match.

The match dates are:

  • Saturday 31st August. Kick off 3pm Belper Town v Glossop North End at Christchurch Meadow, Bridge Street, Belper, DE56 1BA
  • Saturday 7th Sept. Kick off 3pm Alfreton Town v Curzon Ashton at Impact Arena, North St, Alfreton DE55 7FZ
  • Friday 13th Sept. Kick off 7:45pm Derby County v Cardiff City at Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8XL
  • Saturday 14th Sept. Kick off 3pm Chesterfield FC v Torquay United at Proact Stadium, 1866 Sheffield Rd, Chesterfield, S41 8NZ
  • Saturday 14th Sept. Kick off 3pm Matlock Town v South Shields at Causeway Lane, Matlock, DE4 3AR
  • Saturday 14th Sept. Kick off 3pm Sheffield FC v Kidsgrove Athletic at Sheffield FC Stadium, Sheffield Rd, Dronfield S18 2GD

Alternatively, there is an opportunity to volunteer at a community event in Derby on Saturday 7th Sept 11am – 4pm at the Head High Mental Health Awareness event on the Market Square, Derby, DE1 3AE.

New Ashbourne weight management sessions

We’re got new free weight management sessions starting in Ashbourne on Thursday August 29th.

These are for people aged 16 and over with a BMI of 25+.

Keeping Erewash healthy event

Erewash residents are invited to come along and find out more about projects in Erewash that are helping to reduce loneliness and build connections in the community.

Refreshments will be available and booking is essential. 

Two information events are taking place on:

  • Tuesday 3rd September from 10am - 12 Noon at Erewash Voluntary Action, Granville Avenue, Long Eaton, NG10 4HD.
  • Wednesday 4th September 1pm - 3pm Charnos Hall, Ilkeston Hospital, Heanor Road, Ilkeston, DE7 8LN

Dronfield Wellbeing event

Let's talk about your wellbeing!

A free event in Dronfield is offering lots of help and advice for local residents.

There will be representatives from a wide range of organisations including:

  • The Samaritans
  • Live Life Better Derbyshire
  • Rethink Mental Health
  • Andy's Man Club

You can find out more about the services on offer to help improve your emotional health and wellbeing.

Pop along to The Barn, High Street Dronfield on Wednesday August 21st between 10am and 3pm.
