Parking Enforcement in Borrowdale and Buttermere
Parking in Borrowdale and Buttermere continues to be a policing priority following its adoption in May 2025. This focus has been reviewed and will remain in place throughout the 2026 summer tourist season.
Since the priority was issued on 11 May 2026, a range of proactive measures have been implemented to improve road safety and reduce disruption caused by inappropriate parking.
Action being taken includes:
-
High-visibility patrols during peak visitor periods to deter unsafe or inconsiderate parking
-
Joint working with the Lake District National Park Authority and Cumberland Council parking enforcement teams
-
Proactive enforcement, including prosecution of drivers whose vehicles are causing unnecessary obstruction or are parked in locations that pose a danger to other road users
These efforts aim to ensure that roads remain safe and accessible for residents, visitors, and emergency services, particularly during the busy summer months.
We continue to encourage all visitors to park responsibly, use designated parking areas where available, and respect local communities.

 Scam Call Warning
Received a call that doesn’t feel right? Trust your instincts.
Fraudsters can make calls appear genuine by spoofing numbers, so don’t rely on Caller ID as proof of identity. If something seems suspicious, take a moment to pause and verify before taking any action.
You can report scam calls by texting 7726, including the word “Call” followed by the suspicious number.
By reporting these calls, you help us identify patterns and protect others from falling victim.

E-Scooters: Know the Risks
E-scooters may seem like a fun, affordable, and convenient way to get around - but it’s important to understand the reality.
In many areas, privately owned e-scooters are illegal to ride on roads, pavements, or cycle lanes. We have also seen first-hand how quickly incidents can occur, particularly in busy areas with pedestrians and children.
Our goal isn’t to take away anyone’s enjoyment, but to keep people safe and uphold the law.
Riders risk:
- A fine
- Points on their driving licence
- Having their scooter seize
We will continue to educate and raise awareness, but where necessary, enforcement action will be taken.
Please help us keep our communities safe by following the rules.

Buttermere Bash 2026
PCSOs Clare and Pete attended this year’s Buttermere Bash, joining the community for a vibrant and enjoyable weekend in the beautiful surroundings of Buttermere.
During the event, they had the opportunity to speak with several of the organisers, learning more about the Bash’s longstanding tradition of giving back. Over the years, the event has raised and donated funds to a range of local causes, including Mountain Rescue and the Air Ambulance - both vital services that support the safety and wellbeing of the community and visitors alike.
It was a pleasure to be part of such a well-supported and worthwhile event. We hope everyone who attended had a fantastic time and enjoyed all the activities on offer.
A big thank you to the organisers for the warm welcome and for allowing us to come along.

The session was a great success, with pupils learning about the role of the dog handler and the important work carried out by police dogs. This included searching for missing persons, tracking suspects and supporting investigations.
The pupils were highly engaged and enjoyed the opportunity to see the dogs in action and ask questions about their work.
Many thanks go to the dog handler and their police dogs for delivering such an informative and enjoyable session.

Fly camping in and around Keswick and Derwent Water has been identified as a key priority for the 2026 tourist season.
Reports last year highlighted issues of persistent unauthorised camping, leading to anti-social behaviour (ASB) and damage to the natural environment. In response, a coordinated approach has been developed to address these concerns.
This priority was issued on 11 May 2026 and will remain in place throughout the summer period.
Action being taken includes:
-
Joint working with local landowners, the Lake District National Park Authority, and the National Trust to agree a consistent and effective approach
-
High-visibility patrols during peak demand periods to deter fly camping and respond quickly to incidents
-
A targeted media campaign launched ahead of the summer season to educate visitors and discourage fly camping
-
Enforcement action under the Cumberland Council Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to address nuisance behaviour and environmental harm
These measures are aimed at protecting the area’s natural beauty, reducing disruption for local communities, and promoting responsible tourism.
Visitors are reminded to use designated campsites and to respect the landscape in line with the Countryside Code.
