Start your career at Cumbria Police.

Are you interested in an exciting and varied career with a top performing, vibrant, innovative and forward thinking police force? If so, then becoming a police officer could be for you.

We are recruiting police officers through a variety of different routes.

Police officer salary: £29,907 increasing to £48,231 in just SIX years.

Please see below for our open entry routes in policing:

  • PCEP (Police Constable Entry Programme) - A two-year training programme; it gives a blend of practical on-the-job experience and classroom-based learning. Once you leave training school, you will then go onto to your allocated station then eventually go onto independent patrols and will be assessed for the remainder of the two-year programme.
  • DC PCEP (Detective Constable Entry Route) - Traditionally, the conventional way to become a detective was to join the force as a police constable, but as crime changes, so does our recruitment process. Our PCEP DC Programme gives you the opportunity to join our talented and professional team of detectives, carrying out crime investigations across the county. The two year programme is designed to equip you with all the skills and training necessary to ensure that on completion you will be a highly competent detective constable.
  • PPD (Professional Policing Degree) - To be eligible to apply, you will need to have taken a three-year BSc Professional Policing programme offered by universities that are licensed and validated to deliver the Degree by the College of Policing. The post has a two year probation period during which, you will achieve Independent Patrol Status (IPS) and work towards completion and achievement of the Full Operational Competence Portfolio.
  • PCDA (Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship) - The PCDA Programme is a three-year programme with academic modules, course work and exams. The total academic credit value of this course is 360 credits. The academic learning on this course is undertaken and coincides with serving as student police officer, with active frontline duties for Cumbria Constabulary.
Is this the route for you? This route is for someone who would like to work in the role of an operational police officer, whilst studying, and who does not hold a degree-level qualification.
