Welcome to the latest newsletter
Another busy month for the NPT team in the south of the county!
This month we start to prepare for a busy few weeks of events such as Halloween and Bonfire night at the beginning of next month.
This time of year can be a really fun time, dressing up for Halloween and going to Firework displays!
There are, however, many people across our county who feel vulnerable around this time of year, and therefore we'd asks asking those of you who celebrate Halloween and Bonfire Night, to do so in a safe and respectable manner.
Operation Enhance also continues and officers are regularly patrolling our hotspot area which for our area is Ulverston Town centre and addressing and preventing incidents linked to ASB and serious violence.
Two months into the operation, 490 hours of additional patrols have been undertaken – including more than 226 hours in August for the whole of Cumbria.

Controlled explosion in Ulverston
On 24 September, local CBO Jen Grimes and PCSO Paul Harris attended an abandoned property in Ulverston following reports that youths had broken in.
On attending the property to check it was clear, officers located explosive products left by the owner decades before.
EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal team) attended and located further items which were disposed of in a controlled explosion.
The premises has been made secure following further research.
Needless to say, it shows the potential dangers children are placing themselves in with these acts.
We would ask all parents to check what their children are doing when they are out and about during the evening.

On the Friday night (20 September), officers were out in Ulverston town centre conducting high visibility foot patrols and visiting licences premises. This activity was replicated in Bowness-on-Windermere on Saturday night (21 September).
In total across the two areas, 25 licensed premises were visited by police and the Licensing Authority, including full checks conducted as to their compliance with the conditions of their licence, toilets checked for evidence of drug use and staff spoken to regarding the adoption and promotion of the “Ask For Angela” campaign.

Operation Enhance: Officers on hotspot patrols are making arrests, including wanted criminals
Almost 500 extra hours of street patrols have so far been undertaken by officers as part of Operation Enhance - Cumbria’s crackdown on anti-social behaviour and serious violence.
Operation Enhance sees extra police patrols in areas identified as hotspots for anti-social behaviour and/or serious violence across the county.
The operation has been made possible thanks to £1 million of extra funding secured by Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund to target anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence in hotspot areas across the county.
