Burglar jailed for three years
A burglar who targeted his neighbours in West Cumbria has today (23 Nov) been sentenced to three years in prison.
Paul Carr, 30, of Moor Row, West Cumbria, previously entered guilty pleas to burglary, fraud and handling stolen goods.
Carr committed the offences on 22 September 2022 after carrying out a burglary at a property in Scalegill Road, Moor Row. Carr stolen items including money, cigarettes and bank cards.
The court heard how Carr then took the stolen bank card to a local Spar shop and used it to buy goods.
Police had become aware of allegations against Carr following a Facebook post which was spotted by an off-duty officer.
The post was followed up and successful efforts were made to trace the victim, which resulted in Carr’s arrest on 23 September.
Carr refused to answer almost all questions put to him in his police interview.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: “Carr is a serial offender with a history of committing offences of this nature. As such, he has received a significant custodial sentence.
“Crime of this nature – where someone enters your home address and steals your belongings – can have a devastating impact on a victim, which is why preventing burglaries and bringing burglars o justice is a major priority of the Constabulary.
“Anyone with information about a burglar in their community is urged to contact police today.”

We attended St Bee's School to engage with pupils following issues reported with young people, this involved littering and houses being egged.
We are conducting enquiries to identify all those involved, we have already identified some of the young people who don't live in St Bees.
We have also been conducting patrols in the evenings all around St Bees with after no specific area as no specific area has been targeted by the young people. The patrols aim to deter further incidents of anti-social behaviour.
We have also carried out a crime prevention survey and a police desk was held on 24 November, for future dates check the website here - Egremont - Cumbria Constabulary or check our social media pages.
Anti-social behaviour
PCSO Hollie Huck has been liaising with Fell View Health Centres in Cleator Moor following reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) at the location in which staff have been verbally abused.

We will continue to keep a close eye on this.
School talks - the role of the police and Online Safety
PCSO Hollie Huck attended Ennerdale School on 2 November, these sessions are part of the work PCSOs do to build relationships with children in the community and a provide a face which children know within the police.
Hollie spoke with key stage one children about the role of the police and how we keep people safe and how to contact us if they need help. As ever, with our school visits, the opportunity for pupils to try on some of the police uniform was well received.
Hollie also spoke with key stage two children about online safety, we want children to be aware of the risks online and how they can take steps to keep themselves safe. Parents and carers can develop on this is information from sites such as
Anit-social behaviour workshop
PCSO Hollie Huck has attended the Pheonix youth club in Frizington to carry out an anti-social behaviour (ASB) workshop.
The children learnt about ASB and the consequences it has on people and the community.
The children all engaged really well and had some really good questions on how to keep themselves safe.
Keep up the good work kids!

E-scooters continue to be a priority for ourselves and partner agencies.
Ahead of Christmas we know it maybe be tempting to consider buying an e-scooter but it's important to understand the legalities before purchasing one.
