'People Who Help Us' Week
PCSO Alison Renney visited Victoria Infant School to talk to pupils as part of 'People Who Help Us' Week.
During the visit, Alison spoke about her role and what the police do to keep people safe.
The pupils also got to have a look around the police vehicle and enjoyed the lights and sirens.
E-scooters seized
We seized two e-scooters following continued concerns raised by member of the public in relation to their use.
On 14th March, a 30-year-old man was stopped on an e-scooter on Church Street, Workington. He was found to have no driving licence or insurance for riding such a vehicle. He was reported for offences and the e-scooter was seized under Section 165.
On 6th March, we stopped a 13-year-old on a e-scooter on Salterbeck Drive, Workington, who was issued an 'It's Your Choice' form. The scooter belonged to a friend and advice was given regarding permitting use.
'It's Your Choice' forms are used to ensure we update parents on the behaviour of their children for those offences that fall below a criminal offence. The forms result in letters being sent home, home visits and intervention work to try and change behaviour.
For more information on e-scooters please visit Guidance for users - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
Anti-social behaviour
We have been working alongside our proactive team to engage with young people during Workington fair on 25th and 27th March. We were engaging with the public to address any anti-social behaviour issues.
As a result we issued 12 dispersal orders in the area which require those that receive them to leave the area.
'It's Your Choice' forms
This month, we have issued 23 It's your choice forms to young people in relation to anti-social behaviour.
'It's Your Choice' is an intervention scheme which aims to educate young people on the consequences of their antisocial behaviour and the wider impact this has on other people. The submission of these forms result in a letter being sent to parents and are subject of increasing scrutiny should a young person reoffend.
Uppies and Downies: Stay safe
Partner agencies have been meeting ahead of Uppies and Downies, which begins Easter weekend, to put plans in place to ensure people stay safe.
The traditional event, which has no formal organiser, takes place from Friday 15 April and usually attracts large crowds.
Partners from Cumbria Police, Allerdale Borough Council, Cumbria County Council, Highways, Coastguard, North West Ambulance Service and Washington Square have met to discuss to how to keep everyone safe during the unauthorised event and to discuss additional resourcing.
Extra officers and resources will be deployed for the events to ensure it passes safely for all.
Chief Superintendent Lisa Hogan said: “We want people to enjoy the event, but we are asking people to be safe and think of their safety and the safety of others.
“People also need to be aware of their surroundings and take particular care with regards private land and property and their behaviour and actions when the ball comes into close proximity with cars and other property.
“The majority will enjoy the event responsibly; however, we will have officers in the area if anyone has any concerns and to identify any offences if people use the event as an excuse to cause damage.”
Partners are advising communities and visitors to consider where they park their car during the event to avoid potential damage to vehicles.
Partners have been speaking with businesses and local communities ahead of the event to provide advice.
Parents are urged to speak to their children ahead of their attending the event to make sure they are aware of the safety advice.
People should be especially careful of the risks posed by large crowds, leading to potentially serious injuries, as well as trips, sprains and bruises.
Those taking part are asked to be particularly careful when entering or considering entering any water. This can put people at particularly high risk and is not recommended. More advice on water safety can be found here - www.rlss.org.uk.
