High Furness
Your Police Community Support Officers for the High Furness area are PCSO 5125 Paul HARRIS (paul.harris@cumbria.police.uk) and PCSO 5334 Debbie ROSS (debbie.ross@cumbria.police.uk). The area is predominantly rural and we deal with wildlife, farming and rural issues and also show a presence on the lakes, Coniston Water and the west side of Windermere.

|
We deal with all kinds of incidents from antisocial behaviour to neighbour disputes and regularly attend the schools in the area, although current lockdown restrictions prevent some of this.
The Community Team in High Furness are currently involved in the distribution of free property marking kits to farms in the area. Read more from the PCC here > https://cumbria-pcc.gov.uk/pcc-funds-security-marking-kits-for-rural-businesses/

A number of boat break-ins reported have been reported on Windermere (Ash Landing) and one reported on Coniston Water. Boat owners are urged to ensure all equipment is secured and consider security marking. The Lake Wardens at Ferry Nab also sell engine covers with the Constabulary logo which make theft less attractive as outboard engines cannot easily be sold on without a cover. It appears that all the thefts from boats at Ash Landing were carried out on the same night.
We are still hoping to carry out an enforcement event in relation to Operation Vulcan targeting illegal off-roading in the area. This will take place once lockdown restrictions are eased and if we are able to work with volunteers again, we will. There have been fewer reports of activity during the current lockdown.
However, it appears that there is still deer poaching activity in the area. Please report any sightings or suspicious activity on 101, this will help us to get clear indication of the scale of the problem.
Cartmel Peninsula
The Cartmel Peninsula is now part of the Ulverston Community Policing Team area and the main point of contact is PCSO 5334 Debbie ROSS (debbie.ross@cumbria.police.uk)
Along with the rest of the Ulverston Community Policing area we are trying to establish a database of farmers details in order to join the existing ‘Farmwatch’ initiative. If there any farmers or residents with a rural interest who want to be included, then please email me your details or ring 101.

As already stated in the High Furness section I have distributed free property marking kits to farmers on behalf of the PCC. (link above) When restrictions are eased, I will be visiting the schools in the local area and will hopefully be able to engage with students and staff and give talks on issues such as road safety and drugs awareness. I have also been visiting vulnerable victims of crime and giving crime prevention and security advice. I have also been involved in assisting with the roll-out of the Covid vaccinations at the Grange Health Centre which has been a very positive experience during the current lockdown. I would encourage residents to report any suspicious activity such as poaching on 101 so that we can have a clear pictures of the relevant issues.

We deal with all kinds of incidents from antisocial behaviour to neighbour disputes and also engage with local schools.
With current lockdown restrictions still in place, patrols have been focussing on area checks for our businesses and school properties. There are designated Covid Patrols every day, and we have been attending all reported breaches, its important to remember we adopt a "four E's approach" : Engage, Explain, Encourage and Finally - Enforce if necessary.
Officers' experience is that the first three is more than enough to ensure people do the right thing.

Regular visits have also been made to our current vaccination sites at Glaxo Sports Club and Ulverston Health Centre. These have been well attended and the volunteers are doing a great job. No issues have been reported. |
Swarthmoor and Low Furness
Your Police Community Support Officer for Swarthmoor and Low Furness is police Community Support Officer 5171 Helen Madden (helen.madden@cumbria.police.uk)
The area is semi-rural and we deal with a wide variety of issues, working with partners from SLDC, South Lakes Housing and Trading Standards as well as the local Parish, District and County Councillors. As well as dealing with neighbour disputes, antisocial behaviour, criminal damage, thefts and burglary , we carry out regular reassurance patrols both due to the pandemic and in rural locations following theft of oil and tools from commercial properties.
We offer crime prevention visits to any victim of crime and to anyone who feels in need of advice or reassurance. We are continuing with the monitoring of HGVs regarding insecure loads and are planning a multi-agency operation next month in which random roadside stop checks will be carried out and penalties enforced as appropriate.
We are hopefully restarting the Community Speed Watch sessions in March. Speed checks have been carried out by the community team throughout the pandemic.
We have also received numerous complaints about dog fouling and littering and have carried out patrols in specific problem areas though the lead agency for this is SLDC.
Monitoring of parking and access to local schools will restart once the schools return next month.

Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall launches a county wide survey to find out more about hate crimes that take place in Cumbria
The aim of the survey is to develop more of an understanding of hate-fuelled crimes in the county, why these crimes go under-reported, if Brexit and COVID-19 have had a negative effect of crime, and identify if there is a gap in services to help victims cope and recover.
