Maryport drugs issue update - We take action and speak to residents
Patrols have been increased, a drugs warrant has been carried out and arrests made as we've tackled drugs problems in Maryport.
We've also been out speaking to residents to find out their concerns.
At a Local Focus Hub partners' meeting, a decision was made that Maryport would be a priority location.
It came in response to concerns over drug use and associated anti-social behaviour, crime and disorder.
PC Leesa Edwards and PCSO Rachel Pape have conducted Street Safe surveys.
These have been around Robert Ratterie House, Queen Street, St Georges Place and George Street - all aimed at establishing issues that are affecting residents.
These surveys allow police and partners to act on community concerns.
As a result we have increased patrols, resulting in a man being arrested on James Street on suspicion of possession of drugs.
This remains under investigation.
As well as this, the Allerdale pro-active team carried out a drugs warrant at a property near the town centre.
This led to one man being arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and released under investigation.
We would like to reassure the community that we WILL and DO act on intelligence we are given.
If you have information relating to drug use or supply, contact Cumbria Police on 101Emails@cumbria.police.uk or call 101.
Maryport remains a priority location.
While we are still tackling drugs in the area, this month we will be focusing on young people and children engaging in violent behaviour.
This follows several reports of groups of children fighting.
We are working closely with school representatives and our partners to address this.

Keeping the roads safe - Local Focus team targets motorists flouting the law
PC Leesa Edwards and Seargeant Mitch Franks reported a driver on the A596 at Birkby for driving while using a hand held mobile device.
The driver was subsequently issued with a £200 fine and had six points placed on their driving licence.
Using a mobile phone in any capacity while driving is dangerous and against the law.
Keep your mobile devices out of sight while driving to prevent any distractions.
Flimby - Burglars convicted following our investigations
Police in west Cumbria have warned they will not tolerate burglars targeting people’s homes – after two men who broke into a house while the occupants slept were jailed for a total of more than five years.
Nicky Hewitson, 32, and Lee Moore, 43, were handed the sentences at Carlisle Crown Court on January 24.
Hewitson, who admitted burglary, was jailed for two years and four months.
Moore, who was found guilty after a trial, was imprisoned for three years.
The burglary happened at a home in Flimby in the early hours of September 24.
The people living there were woken following noises. Looking out of the window, one spotted a man leaving the house.
Bank cards and other cards had been stolen.
Police searches and inquiries led to Hewitson and Moore, both of no fixed abode. Found near them were the stolen bank cards.
Detective Constable James Graham said: “These men targeted this house while the people inside were asleep.
“The people of west Cumbria can be assured we will not tolerate any burglaries targeting any kind of properties.
“Those who do so can expect to face a police investigation and prosecution.
“These men thought they could enter where they shouldn’t be and take what didn’t belong to them.
“They now both have time to reflect on this.”

Flimby - Set as a priority location
We have been made aware that children are trying to tamper with the defibrillator in Flimby.
We would ask all parents to ensure their children understand the lifesaving value of the equipment - and the need to keep it in good working order.
If anybody sees anyone trying to tamper with the equipment, please contact police.
If damage is likely to be caused, treat it as an emergency and dial 999.
We have received other reports of children in the area acting in an anti-social manner.
In response, we have set Flimby as one of our priority areas for the month.
We ask parents to speak with their children to emphasise the effects of anti-social behaviour on the community, especially the more vulnerable.
