Work by officers leads to shoplifter being banned from all Tesco stores in Cumbria
A shoplifter who regularly stole from Tesco in Workington has been banned from entering all branches of the supermarket in Cumbria.
Claire Marie Moore, 38, of Scalebeck Court, Workington, has been issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order at Workington’s magistrates’ court.
The order lasts for two years. Moore is prohibited from entering any Tesco store in Cumbria. If she does not comply with this order she could face arrest and imprisonment.
Moore has appeared before the courts a number of times where she has been prosecuted for theft. PC Leesa Edwards, a problem solving officer for Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team, said “Moore is a prolific shoplifter, in particular from Tesco’s premises. “Working with the Crown Prosecution Service we’ve been able to obtain this order. “Criminal Behaviour Orders are useful tools available to the courts which can assist the offender to cease further criminality and help protect local businesses. “I would encourage anyone who witnesses the terms of such a court order being broken to contact the police immediately.”

A selection of the young people presented the results.
The research found that the best things about living in Moorclose included: it’s a quiet area; the community spirit, local amenities and people have deep roots there.
The next phase of the project will look to address the concerns raised.
Cumbria Police would like to thank all agencies involved in this great project and, in particular, thank all of the children and young people involved.

Crime prevention - Out-and-about in Workington town centre
We've been working with shop staff to stop anti-social behaviour involving young people.
PCSO Alison Renney, PC Leesa Edwards and our crime prevention officer, David Thomspon, met with Workington's town centre manager and staff from local businesses.
This was to discuss ways of preventing youths from climbing onto the shop roofs.
This follows a number of reports of youths getting on the rooftops, sparking concerns for their safety.
A joint survey of the town was undertaken to identify problem areas and work will be carried out to find a solution.
Officers patrolled the town centre following the meeting, speaking with members of the public and offering advice.

Two arrested following attempted armed robbery in Workington
Two suspects were arrested on suspicion of attempted armed robbery following an incident on January 9 inside the Risino Bros shop on Jane Street.
An unknown offender entered the shop and threatened a staff member with a wood axe.
A 41-year-old man from Workington and a 44-year-old man also from Workington have since been released under investigation.
Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage showing the area of Jane Street/Oxford Street at around 12.15-12.30pm on January 9 to get in touch with us on 101.
We would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to members of the public. Investigations are ongoing.
Anyone with information is again asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 86 of January 9.
Dealing with anti-social behaviour - Dispersal order granted for Workington town centre
We took decisive action to tackle a problem with anti-social behaviour.
On February 1 PCSOs Rachel Pape and Lauren McCurrie attended a large number of youth-related anti-social behaviour reports in the town centre.
As a result a dispersal order was granted by the inspector, meaning those responsible could be banned from the area for a specified period of time.
Using their local knowledge, the officers soon identified several of the youths involved and contacted parents.
This was outstanding work from our community officers.
Neighbourhood policing - Officers tackle nuisance on Roper Street, Workington
PC Leesa Edwards has been working with a private landlord to tackle nuisance behaviour from a property on Roper Street, Workington.
Officers were preparing an application for a closure order on the property due to the anti-social behaviour and suspected drug use at the address.
However, the landlord, with advice and guidance from police, evicted the tenant.
Police will work to tackle properties where the tenants persistently cause nuisance for the surrounding community.
We encourage responsible landlords and will work together to ensure our neighbourhoods are safe and peaceful places.

Nursery children at Victoria Infants get a sneak peek inside a police van
PCSO Alison Renney visited Victoria Infants School to speak with nursery and reception classes.
They had a look inside a police vehicle and got to see and hear the emergency lights and sirens.
Working with the children at a young age is a really good way for them to learn the police are here to help and we are all approachable.

Speaking to residents in Mossbay - We've been listening to your concerns
Our officers have also been out in Mossbay to listen to any concerns from residents.
PCSOs Lisa Jackson and Alison Renney completed a Streetsafe survey on Beach Street, Mossbay.
This came after reports of youth-related anti-social behaviour in the alleyways at the back of the houses.
By speaking to residents in person, officers are able to find out how people are affected and can better direct patrols and other tactics to resolve the issue, while offering reassurance and support.
Local Focus priorities - Tackling the issues that matter to you
Last month Headlands Close and the surrounding area was set as an area priority.
As a result, police patrols to the area were increased, which resulted in a number of people being stopped and searched.
A StreetSafe survey in the area was carried out by PCSO Lisa Jackson, who gained valuable information on the issues.
A drugs warrant was executed. A man was arrested and released pending investigation.
The issue has been referred to the Local Focus Hub to bring together partners, including Castles & Coasts Housing, to address longer term problems.
The area continues to be a priority.
The work in St Michael's ward continues, with more partnership work planned in the coming months.
Watch this space for more information.
We also encourage residents to continue to report crime and disorder in the area to help us tackle and build a picture of the issues affecting residents.
