World Suicide Prevention Day will take place on Thursday 10 September 2026. To mark the day, Every Life Matters will once again host candle-lighting events across Cumbria. These events provide an opportunity for communities to come together to remember those who have died by suicide, show support for individuals who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts, and reinforce the message that no one has to face difficult times alone.
The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day is Changing the Narrative with a call to action to ‘Start the Conversation’ – encouraging all of us to help break the silence and stigma around suicide by creating opportunities for open, compassionate conversations.
Every Life Matters candle-lighting events are open to everyone, and they are asking people to join them from 7:30pm and to share a moment of silence at 8pm with a lit candle.
For more information please visit: World Suicide Prevention Day 2026 - Every Life Matters or click on the flyer below.
People may wish to attend in memory of someone they have lost, in support of someone who is struggling, because of their own experiences, or simply to stand alongside others in their community.

In Cumberland, we believe mental health is everyone's responsibility. We strive to ensure that our workforce and communities are well-equipped to support children and young people (CYP) at every opportunity.
We need a clear and consistent way to train our staff so they can recognise signs of mental health challenges. Our aim is to help raise awareness and ensure our workforce feels confident in supporting children and young people who are struggling with emotional wellbeing or showing early signs of distress or difficulty. We are dedicated to making sure they receive the right support at the right time, following the Thrive model.
Professionals, practitioners, staff, foster carers, and volunteers can access advice, information, and support from:
Together, we can create a culture where children and young people feel safe to talk, know where to find support, and never face challenges alone.
