The Carlisle Teenage Market Summer Fest is happening this Saturday (25 July) in Carlisle City Centre between 10am and 3.30pm.
If you're aged 8 - 25 and would like to find out more about getting involved in The Teenage Market, come along and have a chat with our friendly team. You'll spot them easily in their Teenage Market hoodies, which were specially designed by one of our talented traders, Millie from MJ Designs.
Millie has been part of the Teenage Market since the very beginning and her hoodie design is a fantastic example of the creativity and talent that our young traders bring to the event.
Milie said: “I felt honoured to be asked to design the Teenage Market hoodies as I enjoy designing anything new and I felt proud when I saw the team wearing them. Taking part in various Teenage Market's over the years has meant a great deal to me and it has helped me boost my confidence and promote my small business which started merely as a sixth form project.”
Come and say hello, learn more about the opportunities available, and see what the Teenage Market is all about!

Carlisle Library will reopen on Tuesday 4 August, welcoming residents back to a transformed space designed for learning, creativity and community connection.
More than just a refurbished building, the new Carlisle Library has been reimagined as a place where residents of all ages can learn, discover, connect and thrive. The modern, welcoming environment will bring together library services, digital access, study facilities and adult learning opportunities, creating a vibrant hub for lifelong learning and community engagement.
Surplus furniture from the Carlisle Library refurbishment is continuing to benefit local communities thanks to a partnership with Carlisle-based social enterprise, The Rebuild Site CIC.
Rather than being discarded, shelving and storage units were donated for reuse, helping to reduce waste while supporting charities, community groups, businesses and residents across the city.
The furniture has already been put to a variety of uses, including improving storage in workshops, garages and allotments. A local vehicle workshop purchased 30 units to help reorganise its workspace, while community organisations have also benefited.
Items have helped furnish Afrikana CIC's new community hub in Carlisle, creating a welcoming space for local residents, and donated shelving is also being used in Eden Valley Hospice's new charity shop, which will generate vital income to support its care services.
The project highlights the positive environmental and social impact of reuse and partnership working.

A contractor has been appointed to deliver high quality industrial buildings at Leconfield Industrial Estate in Cleator Moor.
Cumberland Council has appointed Morgan Sindall Construction and Infrastructure Ltd to build Unit 9 and Unit 12.
Work is expected to start on site in August this year and the new units are expected to be available from late 2027.
The two new buildings are being developed as part of the Enterprise Campus.
The Industrial Solutions Hub (iSH) Enterprise Campus is an economic regeneration initiative led by Cumberland Council with funding and support from Government through Town Deal and Levelling Up programmes, and other strategic partners including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Sellafield Ltd.
The development of the site forms part of the wider regeneration programme being delivered across West Cumbria by iSH focused upon delivering economic growth opportunities around robotics, manufacturing and digital.
The Civic Hall in Whitehaven has now fully reopened following the completion of essential safety improvements.
In May, Cumberland Council, jointly with the tenants of the hall, took the decision to temporarily close the building to undertake the necessary works, relating specifically to fire safety. These improvements have now been successfully carried out, and the scheduled events programme in the building can now resume.
While the building was closed, the council also took the opportunity to address some asbestos-related issues on the site.
The council owns the freehold of the Lowther Street building and leases it to the Rosehill Youth Theatre trust who operate it, including its principal events space; The Solway Hall.
The building’s longer-term future will be considered as part of the work to develop a masterplan for Whitehaven. The Whitehaven Masterplan sets a bold, strategic direction and aims to create a thriving, sustainable town that celebrates its history while embracing a dynamic future.

A new £19 million affordable housing and extra care development delivered in partnership with Riverside Group and Cumberland Council has officially opened in Workington.
Customers, staff and local partners came together to celebrate the completion of Harbour Place, which provides 107 affordable homes for people aged 55 and over, with care and support available when needed.
As part of the celebrations, residents buried a time capsule containing the site’s official deeds, photographs of Workington and architectural plans for the development.
More than 60 residents have already moved into the dementia-friendly development, which includes a café, restaurant, landscaped gardens and a range of social activities.

A new development bringing highly skilled jobs and significant investment to west Cumbria is earmarked for the Port of Workington.
Subject to the necessary planning and regulatory permissions, Cavendish Nuclear, together with its delivery partner Amentum, will be constructing a new facility at the port.
This development is part of their wider project to support the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) with decommissioning of the Monju Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (FBR), in Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
The new facility will be operated by a joint venture between Cavendish Nuclear and Amentum and will treat the sodium coolant removed from Monju.
News of the planned facility follows on from recent work carried out at the port and neighbouring Oldside to clear land, preparing it for future development.
The work to clear land is being carried out by Thomas Armstrong Construction on behalf of Cumberland Council, as owners and operators of the port, and is being funded by around £4.5 million in Government funding as part of the Workington Town Deal. It is part of a wider regeneration project which includes the Workington Gateway and the opening up of better transport links in the town centre.
The construction and operation of the sodium treatment plant will support skilled jobs both directly and more widely across the supply chain, contributing significantly to the local economy.
A unique new installation celebrating the values of Flimby Primary School has officially arrived at Flimby railway station, thanks to a partnership between Community Rail Cumbria, part of Cumberland Council, Flimby Primary School, Northern Trains and Gen2.
The station has seen a series of improvements since the school adopted it in 2018, including the Our Flimby boards following the Covid-19 pandemic, the creation of Flimby history boards and, more recently, the striking mural that runs along the Barrow platform.
The latest addition is the Train of Values, a bespoke steel train planter inspired by artwork created by pupils and designed to reflect the values that underpin life at Flimby Primary School.

We have updated our long-term strategy for managing and maintaining the county's highways network, helping to secure a significant element of future government funding for roads and transport infrastructure.
A key benefit of publishing the updated strategy and plan is that it helps secure part of the Department for Transport's highways maintenance incentive funding. The incentive funding allocation is £7.353 million, with publication of the updated documents accounting for 12.5% of that allocation, approximately £919,000.
The refreshed strategy covers the period 2026-2028 and will support the council's ongoing work to maintain a safe, reliable and resilient highway network while ensuring investment decisions are led by evidence, risk and long-term value.
Ash dieback work
We are continuing our work to manage the impact of Ash Dieback disease and other dangerous trees across the county's highway network.
This year, survey work is taking place in the southern part of Cumberland and will include U roads (urban roads), as well as the A5086 and Cumberland-managed sections of the A595. As part of this work, residents and road users may notice survey vehicles travelling along roads throughout the area as inspections are carried out.
Details of summer roadworks
There are a series of planned road closures on the A595 and A5086 to allow remedial carriageway repairs to be carried out.
Works started last week and will run until Saturday 29 August.
Safer journeys delivered on Crosthwaite Road in Keswick
We have completed a series of road safety improvements on Crosthwaite Road in Keswick, helping to make journeys safer and more accessible for pupils, bus users and the wider community.
The completed improvements include a new pedestrian refuge island, upgraded footways and associated parking restrictions designed to improve visibility and reduce the risk of vehicles obstructing key crossing points.
Road resurfacing works planned for Camerton Road in Great Broughton
We are set to carry out carriageway resurfacing works on the C2016 West End/Camerton Road in Great Broughton, helping to improve the condition of the highway and provide safer, smoother journeys for residents, businesses and visitors.
The scheme is scheduled to begin on Monday 27 July 2026 and is expected to take up to seven days to complete, subject to weather and site conditions.
The summer holidays may have just begun, but Cumberland Council is encouraging headteachers and school leaders to get ahead of the new academic year by signing up for a free workshop focused on improving road safety outside schools.
The School Road Safety Workshops, which are exclusively open to Cumberland schools, will give headteachers, school leaders and nominated representatives the opportunity to discuss local challenges, share experiences and explore practical measures that could help make journeys to and from school safer.
The workshops will take place in the Cathedral Room at the Civic Centre, Carlisle, on:
-
Tuesday 29 September, 9.30am to 12.30pm
-
Friday 9 October, 9.30am to 12.30pm
