The 14th annual Farm Safety Week in the UK takes place from 20-24 July 2026. Led by the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies), this campaign aims to change attitudes toward risk-taking and highlight vital safety and wellbeing issues in agriculture.
The CSCP are proud to support this year's Farm Safety Week, calling on Cumbria's farming communities to make safer choices on farms.
We join forces with others across the industry to help raise awareness, share key safety messages and encourage practical changes that can prevent accidents and protect lives.
In Cumbria, there are over 5,000 farm holdings, and farming is a significant part of our county’s economy, employing over 12,000 people. Unfortunately, agriculture is often described as 'the most dangerous industry' but more accurately, it has the poorest safety record, with a rate of fatal injury significantly higher than any other sector in the UK.

This year's message
This year, Farm Safety Week is not about statistics...it's about PEOPLE.
 |
|
As Farm Safety Week returns for the 14th year, we are highlighting a reality that is often overlooked. While farm fatalities rightly attract significant attention, thousands more people suffer serious, life-changing injuries each year that can have a lasting effect on them, their families, farm businesses, and the wider community.
This year, it's about people, because every accident changes a life.
|
Due to the dangerous nature of farms, children, especially young children, should not be in the farm workplace. However, if children are taken into the workplace, e.g. for a learning experience, the visit should be properly planned in advance to avoid busy times or higher risk areas.
|
At all times, while the child is in the farm workplace, they should be closely supervised by an adult who is not engaged in any work activity. The sole focus of the adult must be on supervising the child.
Therefore, this week-long initiative focuses on challenging risky behaviours, preventing accidents from moving vehicles and machinery, and fostering a stronger safety-first culture. With farming consistently recording some of the highest workplace fatality and injury rates in the UK, the campaign encourages farmers and rural workers to re-evaluate their daily routines.
-
As employers, we must ensure the working environment is safe and healthy
-
As workers, we must take responsibility for working safely, protecting ourselves and others and play our part in prevention
-
As an industry, we must work together to challenge and improve our persistently poor safety record
