10p swims for Cumberland children
All schoolchildren aged up to 16 years old from the Cumberland area will be able to go for a swim in a choice of five indoor pools for only 10p over the February half term school holidays.
The discounted scheme will be available between Saturday 14 and Sunday 22 February and has been put in place by Cumberland Council, with the support of GLL and Wigton Baths Trust.
The council scheme will offer discounted swimming opportunities throughout the week and some locations will also offer free sessions on a weekend.
It will be available at the following leisure sites at allocated times during the school holidays:
- Cockermouth Leisure Centre: 1pm - 1.50pm, Monday to Friday.
- Copeland Pool and Fitness Centre (Whitehaven): 12pm - 12.50pm, Saturday 14 and Saturday 21 February. 10am - 10.50am, Sunday 15 and Sunday 22 February. 1pm - 1.50pm, Monday 16 February, Tuesday 17 February, Thursday 19 February and Friday 20 February.
- The Sands Centre (Carlisle): 10am - 10.50am, Monday to Friday and Sunday 22 February.
- Wigton Baths: Monday 16 February, 3pm - 4pm, Tuesday 17 February, 11am - 12pm and 3.15pm - 4.15pm, Wednesday 18 February,11am - 12pm and 3pm - 4pm, Thursday 19 February, 11am - 12pm, Friday 20 February, 11am - 12pm and Saturday 21 February, 11am - 12pm.

Coming Up This February Half Term:
In February half term, children eligible for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme can take part in a wide range of activities, with a free meal included each day.
Activities on offer include Sport Camps, Art Camps, Horse Riding, Outdoor Adventure & much more!
Booking is straightforward and only takes a few minutes. As places are limited, families are encouraged to reserve a spot early.
The HAF Programme aims to give children a positive, engaging break from school, and this half term provides plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Families looking for engaging activities this half term will find plenty to enjoy at The Beacon Museum.
The Harbour Gallery is currently hosting Comics: The Famous & Forgotten, an exhibition that explores the rich history of comic art in Britain. Visitors can follow the evolution of the comic strip, step into the lively worlds of Beano, Viz and 2000AD, and discover how artists such as David Lloyd and Bryan Talbot helped establish Britain as a major force in global comic culture. The exhibition runs until 15 March and offers a fascinating look at both well‑known characters and the hidden gems of the comic world.
JD Kenworthy - The West Cumbrian Portrait Artist is a new temporary exhibition in the Light and Dark Gallery, celebrating the life and work of renowned local artist and civic leader John Dalzell Kenworthy (1858–1954). Running from 14 February to 21 June 2026, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the people, stories, and social fabric of West Cumbria during the Edwardian era.
Alongside the exhibitions, the museum’s monthly Beakid programme continues to offer creative, hands‑on activities for children of all ages on Saturday 14, Sunday 15 and Tuesday 17 February. In this months session, families can take part in a special Chinese New Year celebration that blends culture, creativity and a touch of animal magic. Children will begin with a one‑hour craft workshop inspired by Lunar New Year traditions, followed by a one‑hour animal encounter where they can meet real creatures up close and learn fun facts about them.

This February half term, Tullie is offering a full programme of creative activities for families from 14 to 22 February.
All activities are included with an adult annual pass or day ticket, and children go free. Families can drop in between 1pm and 4pm to enjoy a different themed craft each day, from dog brooches and Emperor’s Horse puppets to Roman intaglio prints, laurel crowns, paper mosaic crowns, bulla lockets, Roman bust self‑portraits and colourful pop‑up Colosseums.
Junior Gladiator Training returns on 17 February, giving children the chance to join Gladiator Titus for a lively 30‑minute session of cardboard chariot racing, sword skills, Roman armour try‑ons and object handling. Suitable for ages 5 to 12, these sessions are free for children with an adult annual pass or day ticket, and booking is required.
For those seeking a tasty treat, Grasmere Gingerbread® will be popping up at Tullie with their famous gingerbread as well as some delicious rum butter. You’ll find them in the Welcome Space next to the shop from 11am to 4pm on Tuesday 17 February.
Sea Legs Puppet Theatre present Henry Clutterbuck & The Musician of Bremen on 19 February. Henry Clutterbuck loves nothing more than making up stories with the things that people bring into his shop, Clutterbuck’s Curiosities. When somebody leaves him a suitcase full of old musical instruments his imagination is stirred.
Families can also enjoy a screening of Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie on 20 February. In this adventure, a magical meteor grants the PAW Patrol superpowers, transforming them into the Mighty Pups as they face their biggest challenge yet.
With hands‑on crafts, energetic activities and family‑friendly entertainment, Tullie offers a fun and varied way to spend the half term break.

Join Handpicked Productions this February in Whitehaven and Cleator Moor for a hands-on, family-friendly SumArt To Do workshop where you’ll create your very own puppet theatre together.
Families will work side by side to build a stage, make puppets, and invent stories to bring them to life. Will your characters be funny or fearsome? Inspired by family, friends, or pure imagination?

The Carnegie Theatre in Workington has two big live events lined up for February half term, starting with K‑Pop Live on 14 February. This high‑energy tribute show brings the world of K‑pop to the stage, celebrating the music, choreography and visual style that turned the genre into a global sensation.
On Sunday 15 February, The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and Cumberland Music Service are partnering with The Carnegie Theatre & Arts Centre for a Saxophone Day for young people and more experienced adults (minimum age 8+). The day will provide an opportunity for players to develop creative, musical and technical skills.
Families can step into a prehistoric adventure with Dinosaur Adventure Live - Danger on T‑Rex Mountain on 20 February. Audiences will join a team of rangers on a mission to save the dinosaurs, meeting a range of species along the way and learning fascinating dino‑facts. The show features baby dinosaurs, interactive moments and a dramatic encounter with a roaring T‑Rex, creating an immersive Jurassic experience for all ages.

Florence Arts Centre in Egremont is inviting families to enjoy a magical day of creativity and imagination with its Fair Folk Family Activity Sessions on Thursday 19 February.
Children can create their own Fairy House or Tizzy Whizzy with Sophie, follow the Garden Gnome Trail, make a micro green troll or get messy with clay in the pottery. Jessie will be sharing Forest Folk stories throughout the day, adding a cosy storytelling element to the experience. Older children aged 8 to 12 can also help Nanette bring a Green Giant to life as part of a collaborative creative project.
Activities are suitable for all ages, though children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Theatre by the Lake in Keswick is set to delight families this February half term with two imaginative shows.
On Monday 16 February, The Bubble Show 2: More Bubbles brings the legends of Bubbleland to life in a spectacular display of bubble artistry and visual magic.
On Tuesday 17 to Wednesday 18 February, younger audiences can enjoy Mr Sleepybum’s Dream Machine.
Designed for ages 3 to 8, this award‑winning comedy show follows Mr Sleepybum, who can’t dream and builds a machine to bring dreams to life. What follows is a whirlwind of dinosaurs, robots, car chases and oversized blankets, all delivered with slapstick humour and interactive fun.

Carlisle United’s Community Sports Trust is offering a lively mix of football, dance and gymnastics camps this February half term, giving children the chance to stay active, build confidence and enjoy time with friends.
The Soccer Schools are open to ages 5 to 13, and are led by FA‑licensed coaches who pack each day with games, challenges and skill‑building activities. These will take place across Cumberland including, Carlisle and Maryport.
The Dance and Gymnastics Camp takes place in Carlisle for ages 5 to 11. This camp offers expert coaching to help children improve technique, flexibility and musicality while encouraging them to express themselves individually and as part of a team.

Families visiting the Roman Army Museum in Brampton this half term, can enjoy a journey through history with the Aquila Family Trail. Guided by Aquila, the museum’s friendly mascot, children and adults are invited to march through the galleries and uncover what life was really like on the Edge of Empire.
The free trail can be collected from the museum on arrival and encourages families to search for objects, answer Aquila’s questions and learn more about the people who once lived at Magna Fort and along Hadrian’s Wall, the most northerly frontier of the Roman Empire.

From Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 February, families can experience The Magic of Lambing, a heart‑warming celebration of new life on the farm. The Animal Barn will be full of excitement as the Livestock Team cares for expectant ewes and their newborn lambs, giving visitors the chance to watch lambing up close and meet lambs just days old.
Adding even more sparkle to the week, Magic Week with Stu‑di‑doo runs from Monday 16 to Friday 20 February. Stu‑di‑doo’s daily magic shows promise plenty of laughter, amazement and family‑friendly fun, making them a perfect addition to a day out at the farm.
For those who can’t make it in person, Walby’s Lamb Cam Live will be streaming straight from the Animal Barn throughout the entire lambing period, from 14 to 22 February. A Stage One finish in Carlisle and a Stage Two start in Keswick have been both confirmed for the 2027 Tour De France.
The men’s Tour de France will begin in Edinburgh on Friday 2 July 2027, with the opening stage finishing in Carlisle the same day, before stage two travels from Keswick on Saturday 3 July 2027 - through the Lake District and Lancashire to finish on The Strand in Liverpool the same day, under the watchful gaze of the city’s iconic waterfront.
As the countdown continues, there will be plenty of opportunities for families, schools, community groups, and local businesses to take part - from volunteering and cultural events to cycling themed activities across the region.
More details will be shared as plans develop, but it’s already shaping up to be a once‑in‑a‑generation moment for Cumberland.
