Thursday 5th of June 2025
CSAB is inviting carers, professionals and other supporters to get involved in Carers Week 2025, running from 9th-15th June.
This year’s theme, ‘Caring about Equality,’ will focus on highlighting the challenges and inequalities faced by unpaid carers across the UK, calling for a fairer society where they have access to greater support. You can follow the CSAB Carers Week social media campaign on X, starting on Monday 9th of June: @cumbriasab
There are 5.8 million people in the UK caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled. Despite contributing an estimated £184 billion to the UK economy each year, many carers feel undervalued and unsupported.
Carers week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. Carers Week is led by Carers UK with the support of a number of other charities.

An unpaid carer is someone who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, and would find it difficult to manage without their support.

Councils in England receive 1.8 million new requests for adult social care a year – the equivalent of nearly 5,000 a day – and despite some helpful extra funding there is still a £3.5 billion funding gap facing adult social care by 2025 just to maintain existing standards of care.
Despite these tremendous pressures this publication demonstrates current examples of how councils support adult and young carers locally in a range of different ways from respite breaks to discount cards to tailored information and advice.
