Throughout Safer Sleep Week (10 – 16 March 2025), Cumbria Safeguarding Children Partnership have provided a range of resources for professionals, from The Lullaby Trust, to share with families they work with, to increase their knowledge of safe sleeping and, ultimately, reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Today, on the final day of Safer Sleep Week, we are focusing on the basics of safer sleep for expectant parents
It’s never too early to start preparing a safe sleep space for a little one’s arrival.
The Lullaby Trust have created a Guide to the Basics of Safer Sleep for Expectant Parents, which aims to help expectant parents create a safer sleep routine from the moment they bring their baby home. This guide is provided in the following video:
Preparing for a baby: Safer Sleep Advice Summary
In addition, The Lullaby Trust provide a range of information on their website, which can be accessed here, to give expectant parents help and support to answer the following questions:
- Where will my baby sleep?
- What will my baby sleep in?
- How will my baby sleep?
- How will I sleep?
If you know a family who needs support with their babies’ sleep pattern, please signpost them to their midwife, GP or Health Visitor.
We suggest you cascade this information within your teams and with other agencies you work with, who work with families.
