This week, 10 – 16 March 2025, is Safer Sleep Week, which is The Lullaby Trust’s national awareness campaign targeting anyone looking after a young baby. It aims to raise awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and provide simple advice that reduces the risk of it occurring.
Today, we are focusing on sleeping positions that can affect a baby's ability to breathe
A baby's airway (breathing tube) is very delicate and, in some situations, it can block, narrow or fold, which can make it difficult for them to breathe.
The Lullaby Trust have created an easy to read guide, which highlights the dos and don’ts of how to keep a baby’s airway clear, whilst they are sleeping - Help keep your baby’s airway clear leaflet.

 If you know a family who needs support with their babies’ sleep pattern, please signpost them to their midwife, GP or Health Visitor.
