This week, 10 – 16 March 2025, is Safer Sleep Week, which is The Lullaby Trust’s national awareness campaign targeting anyone looking after a young baby. It aims to raise awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and provide simple advice that reduces the risk of it occurring.
Today, we are focusing on the facts and myths about safe sleep
There are a number of facts and myths about how babies should sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS.
The Lullaby Trust have created a True and False Card Activity, designed for professionals to use with parents to increase their knowledge of safe sleeping, to reduce of the chance of SIDS.
The activity includes a number of facts and myths, which parents can discuss and decide whether they are true or false. Some examples of the facts and myths are shown below:
To access the True and False Cards Activity to use with families you work with, please visit The Lullaby Trust’s website: The Lullaby Trust’s True and False Cards Activity
The Lullaby Trust have also created a Safer Sleep for Babies Guide for Parents and Carers, which we would encourage you to share with families, as necessary: Safer Sleep for Babies Guide for Parents and Carers
If you know a family who needs support with their babies’ sleep pattern, please signpost them to their midwife, GP or Health Visitor.
Please look out for tomorrow’s 5 Minute Briefing, where we will be focusing on sleeping positions that can affect a baby’s ability to breathe.
We suggest you cascade this information within your teams and with other agencies you work with, who work with families.
