Safer Sleep Week, which begins today and is taking place from 10 – 16 March 2025, is The Lullaby Trust’s national awareness campaign targeting anyone looking after a young baby. It aims to raise awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and provide simple advice that reduces the risk of it occurring.
What is Safer Sleep Week?
The Lullaby Trust explain that greater awareness of safer sleep leads to a decrease in the number of babies dying.
Sadly, around 3 babies a week still die from SIDS and if all parents were aware of safer sleep advice, many lives could be saved. Around 700,000 babies are born every year in the UK, and The Lullaby Trust aim to continue to reach out to all new parents with their life-saving messages.
Safer Sleep Week 2025 will focus on what a baby’s sleep should look like, versus when you may want to seek advice. It will also bust the common myths that we see online surrounding baby sleep, and provide support to parents when they are feeling sleep deprived.
Resources for Safer Sleep Week
There are a number of materials available to promote the Safer Sleep Week message. These are available for parents, carers and professionals to download on The Lullaby Trust’s website: Safer Sleep Week - The Lullaby Trust
Professionals should print copies of resources, where possible, to share with families during contact sessions, and to display in public areas, to raise awareness of safe sleep.
During Safer Sleep Week, the CSCP will be sharing further resources from The Lullaby Trust to help raise awareness of safe sleep and we suggest you cascade this information within your teams and with other agencies you work with, who work with families.
