Eden Bridge in Carlisle is in the process of being reopened to pedestrians and cyclists.
It was temporarily closed but now that wind speeds caused by Storm Éowyn have dropped and assessments have been made of the Sands Centre’s temporary canopy - installed as part of the RAAC replacement on the Sands’ auditorium roof - a decision has been taken to reopen the pedestrian walkway. Rickerby Park, Memorial Bridge and Zero path have also reopened.
Newmarket Road and Duke’s Road remain closed but will reopen tomorrow morning (Saturday 25 January).
The footways adjacent to The Sands Centre will remain closed and barriers will be place.
The site will be under constant observation and if circumstances change, temporary closures will be reinstalled.
The Sands Centre leisure centre, Sands Centre Car Park and the Swifts Car Park will remain closed over the weekend.
Due to the impact of Storm Eowyn, we suspended all waste collection services for today.
We apologise for any inconvenience this caused and appreciate your understanding as we prioritised safety.
You can find out more about when we will come to empty your bins on our website.

Exciting improvements to a leisure facility in Cleator Moor are now underway.
Following planning approval last year, Thomas Armstrong - working on behalf of Cumberland Council - has now started work on the activity centre.
Healthy Town is one of four projects that make up the Cleator Moor Town Deal and the works are the first of the projects to get underway.
Once complete, it will provide the community with a modern, multi-purpose and inclusive sports facility at the existing activity centre.
The news has been welcomed by one of the new primary users of the revamped site. It will provide a new base for Cumberland Occupational and Social Centre (COSC) - a day centre for individuals with physical disabilities.

Improvement plans for Cleator Moor have moved forward with the submission of a planning application.
Connected Town, part of the Cleator Town Deal, encourages more walking and cycling in and around Cleator Moor, improving accessibility and also enhancing gateways into the town.
The project will better connect Cleator Moor to employment, education and health provision beyond the town, while also enhancing the perception and character of the town as an innovative and dynamic place to live, work and visit.
The project will also include improvements to:
- The B5295 from Mill Hill to its junction with Trumpet Road.
- The Town Square Frontage.
- Linkage between the Health Centre and the Activity Centre.
- Access to the C2C from Cleator Moor.
- Leconfield Bridal Path.
A police team from Wales has visited Cumberland to learn from the success of Local Focus Hubs.
Jessica Thomas (Partnerships Co-ordinator), PC John Rankin-Hill (Force Problem-solving Lead) and PCSO Johanna Kelham (Force ASB Lead) from Dyfed-Powys Police visited last week to see first-hand how the hubs tackle antisocial behaviour – and whether the model could be replicated in their own force.
The officers spent two days with Cumberland Local Focus Hub Managers Emma Thompson and Louise Coid, Inspector Pete Aiston of Cumbria Constabulary, and other hub members, to see the partnership approach to antisocial behaviour.
Time is running out for people to have their say on car parks in Carlisle and Keswick.
Residents, businesses, organisations and visitors are being encouraged to take part in surveys being run by Cumberland Council to understand people’s use of and views on local car parks. The surveys are initially focused on those two locations with other areas of Cumberland to follow at a later date, and will be open until Friday, 31 January.
The council is hoping to gather opinions about the parking options in both locations, users’ reasons for using the car parks, value for money, how sites could be improved and more.
The information gathered will help inform the council as it develops a parking strategy; looking at how it can best manage and use the car parking assets it owns as well as provide the necessary parking required in different locations.
