WELL Implementation Plans
We recognise and encourage schools to see implementation as a process.
Your WELL Implementation plan will therefore be a live document that you will want to return to and review regularly. We also appreciate that the implementation process and planning is hard and this is why it is worth doing.
To understand what your identified priority is and how you intend to evaluate impact, we need a submitted implementation plan via the ONLINE FORM by Friday 15th November.
If you would like support in writing the plan, please email the WELL team at WELL@cumberland.gov.uk and we can arrange this for you.
|
Please note that grant agreements will lapse after this date. If we have not received an implementation plan or if you have not contacted us to discuss your plan status by Friday 15th November, we will make a direct contact to you before reallocating your funding.
Based on the quality assurance of plans received to date and the learning from the Professor Jonathan Sharples Implementation Guidance workshops, we offer few prompts to consider prior to submitting your WELL Implementation plans for 2024/25:

WELL Schools Leading the way with Research
The engagement of WELL schools in research and evaluation continues to be a real strength.
There is an opportunity to contribute to a important survey from the University of Nottingham, specifically focusing on school leadership through the UK Sustainable School Leadership Survey. Please see below:
"Tell us about your experience of school leadership – are you thriving, surviving or sinking? This survey is part of a major three-year research project exploring contemporary school leadership across the UK by academics at the Universities of Nottingham and Warwick.
We want to hear from you if you are a senior or middle leader in school or in a cross-school role (such as a Local Authority or Multi-Academy Trust) about your experience of recruitment, development and support as well as what drains and sustains you in your role.
The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. It is open now and closes on Friday 13th December."
You can access the survey HERE.

Local Expertise
We are delighted to have received very positive feedback about the quality of partners and people that have joined our Education Research Alliance for this phase of WELL.
Many are due to the work of Patty and Sue in building great relationships and in giving them all confidence in our commitment to evidence informed delivery. Kate Horton, regional lead for EEF, Professor Rob Coe and his team at EBE, Louise Quinn and Stella Jones from Shotton Hall and Town End Research Schools, Sally Franklin from MITA, Professor Jonathan Sharples, Marc Rowland, and Andy Taylor from FFT are all a part of ERA. All are committed to sustainable work and have commented on how impressed they are with Sue and Patty, and also with the colleagues from WELL schools that they are working with.
University of Nottingham have also evidenced that we have schools and individuals locally with increasingly sophisticated understanding of implementation and evidence use and that we can do more to utilise this local expertise as part of ERA, during WELL Phase 3.
We are in the process of increasing local capacity, including local implementation lead schools so watch this space!
Education Research Alliance (ERA) Building
Education Research Alliance (ERA) Building; Ashfield Junior School, 12 High St, Workington CA14 4ES
We are delighted that the new Education Research Alliance (ERA) building, situated at Ashfield Junior School, is now in use.
We are very grateful to the team at Castles and Coasts who volunteered their time and resources free of charge to help us to get the building ready. Their commitment to the local community is extremely appreciated.
Thank you to the Headteachers and Implementation leads of our Targeted Grant Primary and Junior Schools who joined us yesterday (5th November) at the building to discuss pupil outcomes trends and to share experiences. The commitment to collaborate more regularly going forward is fantastic.
This venue is a great new facility and place for our schools to come together and collaborate. We are hoping to have the building available for hire for meetings at a small charge to cover costs. The main room (pictured above) can accommodate 30 people with parking for around 12 cars. More information will follow on arrangements on how to make bookings and charges.
Disadvantaged Provision Project with Marc Rowland (Cohort 2)
In addition to our continued work with the 22 schools from Cohort 1 (2023/24) of this project, we now have another 22 schools committed to start Cohort 2 of the Disadvantage Provision Project with Marc Rowland.
The project focuses on looking at school life through the lens of disadvantaged pupils and considers how schools are meeting their needs, through school visits, whole cohort network meetings and feedback on their current Pupil Premium Strategy.
The ERA team will be in contact with each school participating in Cohort 2 directly to arrange visit dates for Marc and the team to come into school.
