Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is.

An unpaid Carer is someone who looks after a relative or friend who, due to a disability, illness or old age, cannot manage at home without their help. It is now estimated that there are over 70,000 unpaid carers in Cumbria who provide vital care and support to thousands of vulnerable and ill people. Caring can be a very demanding and often isolating however there are district based Carers Support organisations who can make life a little easier by helping to arrange the support and advice you need.
Carers Support Cumbria is a carer services provider consortium formed from the county’s well-established carer support service providers. All of who have extensive experience in delivering contracted universal and targeted support services for unpaid carers of all ages from the age of five. All districts within Cumbria offer support to young carers, young adult carers, parent carers, adult carers, cared for and their families. |

The Carers Support Organisations provide support services to all aged unpaid Carers. They are experienced in delivering Carers Assessments, Support Plans, Emergency Contingency Plans, health and wellbeing support and associated personalised support services.
They will meet you to discuss your caring role, particularly how it impacts on your physical or mental health including any other advice needed to support you to continue with your caring role. Support Workers will work with you to devise a support plan which will help you to identify the things you would like to change in your life and if needed, signpost to specialist agencies that can provide information and support. Carers Support Organisations also offer social hubs & clubs, holiday & after school clubs, day trips, benefits information and informational sessions.
A Carer can enter their journey gradually over time, dementia for example or suddenly due to a life changing incident. No two journeys, nor their duration are ever the same. All journeys though are likely to involve, health and social care, employment, family relationships, forms and their bureaucracy, feeling alone, forgotten and frustrated.

No one ever need be alone on their journey as Carers Organisations; whose reason for existence is to support unpaid Carers on their journey, exist everywhere in the UK. More and more people, through Carer Champion training in the community and workplace, are becoming aware of unpaid Carers and directing them to support.
There will be stairs to climb, slides to drag you down and guidance on how to make the journey more rewarding. You need never be alone on your journey.
