The 'WELL Project in Action' Magazine
We are pleased to share a digital version of the 'WELL Project in Action' magazine.
Our thanks to 'INTRO' for producing a high quality showcase, evidencing the great work our schools are doing. Please share the magazine link with your governors and colleagues.

Application for the Next Phase of WELL
The WELL Team is currently in the process of reviewing our theory of change and applying for funding to enable the next phase of the project for at least 3 years.
We are also fortunate to have support from ERA, including Marc Rowland, Evidence based education and the EEF to advise and provide their expertise as we make our application.
None of this would be possible without your relentless commitment to WELL. If you would like to offer your ideas or feedback to inform the next phase, please email these to WELL@cumberland.gov.uk by 26th April. We will keep you informed of our progress.

Hold the date - Tuesday 3rd September
Following a number of schools contacting us to enquire about booking Laughology for their September INSET day, we have arranged for Stephanie to run a half day PM session for WELL schools on Tuesday 3rd September.
Details of how to book will be shared before the end of April and schools will be able to send multiple staff to attend the session, so please hold this date in your diaries until then!

CECIL Project - LLLI
Over the last year, 7 WELL schools have taken part in an EEF trial focused on Early Years language. The 'Learning Language and Loving it' (LLLI) evaluation is due out later this term. The Sutton trust and Communicate have been working with WELL to develop a follow up with those schools that participated in the trial. 6 WELL schools have agreed to take part in this project between April and December 2024. The learning from this work will be shared with all schools and will be used to inform future evidence based early years opportunities for our schools.
To support our work in this crucial phase of education, Dale has also been invited to attend a Sutton Trust/ Nuffield Foundation Early Years event in London next week. The conference focuses on effective implementation of evidence based practice in the Early years. We will be using this PD to support our future Early Years planning.

We've gone Global!
Our brilliant independent evaluation lead, Professor Toby Greany from the University of Nottingham, presented and shared the work of the WELL Project and our fantastic schools at an international conference in Philadelphia this week!

Thinking ahead...
We hope your implementation plan focus is progressing well this year.
As you will be aware, one of WELL's key enabling strategies has been the focus on evidence based implementation. We have worked to balance autonomy with the expectation that a consistent implementation approach is applied by our schools. Naturally, groups of schools are working on similar key priorities such as phonics, reading, readiness to learn etc.
By the end of this phase of WELL, our intention is to capture the impact of your work over the past three years so we can share with all schools those factors that give us the best chance for success, including for our disadvantaged pupils.
By half term, we will provide a framework to support you to submit an evaluation of the impact of your work, intended to benefit you, all schools and the project as a whole.

Time for reflection...
As we move into the final term of this 3 year phase of WELL, you will be aware that you have received larger grants over the last 3 years due to the number of disadvantage in your school. During this term, Dale will be arranging discussions/ visits to support impact evaluation of this strategic approach taken by the project and to understand how the project can be improved. One of the key outcomes is that learning from the 23 targeted grant offer schools can be made available to all schools as part of our ambition to support a better understanding of what works in our region and context.
Dale will provide a framework before the end of half term to support you to submit an evaluation that is intended to benefit you, all schools and the project as a whole.
