MADE 24 Conference
What a Day!
Last Wednesday, it was wonderful to welcome over 140 colleagues from 80 western schools to MADE 2024.
Feedback on the day was very positive from both delegates and the leading experts delivering keynotes workshops. We are extremely grateful to those of you that have sent emails:
“Congratulations on an amazing conference! I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought that the speakers were fantastic.” (delegate)
“I just wanted to send a quick email to say how fantastic the conference was yesterday. It is evident that there was so much hard work put into the organisation of the event. Myself and my colleagues came away with so many ideas to bring back to school to continue things we've started, or to implement new things.” (delegate)
|
And a message to all of you that were there from Stephanie Davies and Dave Keeling from Laughology:
“Just a note to say a massive thank you from Dave and I for making us feel super welcome today. We loved spending the day with you all.”

Online Padlet
An online padlet, containing presentations and resources has been developed to support schools in implementation and follow up in school.
The MADE 24 Padlet can be found here.

Evaluation Survey
We want to continually improve and offer the best possible Professional Development to you all. To make future events possible and to ensure they serve to inspire and challenge us all to make our best better, please take a few minutes to complete our evaluation survey once it it circulated.
We will be sending this to all delegates this week so please look out for it!

The 'WELL Project in Action' Magazine
It can be easy to take for granted the commitment of schools to WELL and the work taking place to make a difference.
As the CEO of Sellafield states on our WELL in action magazine, the impacts you are having:
“…happen in the thousands of individual interventions and activities in classroom across west Cumbria every day.”
The 'WELL Project in Action' magazine was shared at MADE Conference 24 and a digital version of the magazine will be available very soon.
A big thank you to the Headteachers and school teams at Cockermouth School, Northside Primary, Eaglesfield Paddle CE Primary, Thursby Primary. Workington Academy and Fairfield Primary for sharing cases studies. They are inspirational to read.
If you are interested in being a case study for WELL, please email WELL@cumberland.gov.uk and we will be in touch!

Website Updates & Cluster Meetings
We are in the process of updating the CA website and will share details as soon as it is relaunched.
Dale has valued the opportunity to present at a number of cluster meetings over recent weeks and this has resulted in more schools keen to get started.
If you would like Dale to deliver an online or face to face briefing, please email WELL@cumberland.gov.uk and we will arrange this with you.
Sethera & Dovera Award Passports
Ben will be delivering our CA passports to schools as soon as possible. We value feedback on these and the workbooks.

Evaluation Survey
Thank you to all Headteachers and ELSAs for taking the time to complete our evaluation survey.
For those that have not completed it, we will make one final attempt to increase the response this week and will then analyse and share with the WELL Board and all schools before Easter. We are in the process of exploring future ELSA cohorts and will update opportunities through WOW.

WELL’s ambition
We are all aware of the ambition that we have to impact on disadvantaged attainment gaps has been made more challenging and complex. However, this ambition is not diminished because of this. Dale has heard that some clusters are coming together to share data and projections for disadvantaged pupils and to share details of planned actions before end of Key Stage assessments.
This summer will have seen three years of grants provided by WELL to our schools to implement plans intended to have a disproportionately positive impact on those pupils experiencing disadvantaged. Before the Easter holidays, we encourage leadership teams and governing bodies to have a focused conversation about this pupil group and to reflect on any tweaks needed to current Well implementation plans. Every child and young person really does matter and we will do all we can to support you all.
Question for this week...
In relation to your PP strategy and your WELL implementation plan, do all staff in our school understand:
- The key issues that are being addressed?
- How the school is seeking to address them?
- The evidence that supports the approached being taken?
- The evidence to inform whether the approach is working?
- Their role in the process?
- What success will look like after 3 years of WELL implementation?
