As you are aware, one of the key ambitions of WELL is to offer evidence based, high quality Profession Development.
We are thrilled to have the senior team from Evidence Based Education coming to West Cumbria to run an afternoon conference on Friday 13 October. With keynotes from Professors Rob Coe and Stuart Kime, together with practical workshops, this conference aims to demonstrate how great teaching is and can be facilitated by the Great Teaching Toolkit (GTT) across the WELL Project.
This event is highly recommended for both current GTT schools and all schools with a priority to improve teaching. Places for this event 'Developing Great Teaching with the Great Teaching Toolkit' being held at Whitehaven Golf Club from 12:30 - 16:00 can be booked now with the School Development Team.

WELL Independent Evaluation 2023
We are pleased to confirm that 100 schools completed the Independent Evaluation Survey in June 2023.
Your commitment to provide feedback will form an invaluable part of the formative evaluation process.
The Evaluation team are currently finalising their analysis of the survey, together with Case Study, Interview and data analysis. The WELL Team will hear initial headlines in early October and the full evaluation of 2022-23 will be shared with the WELL Board at the end of November 2023.
We will provide access to the Evaluation Report as soon as possible and will use the learning to rectify our plans where required.

All Targeted Grant Offer Schools will receive a face to face/ Teams meeting with either Dale, Patty or Sue. They will be in touch to arrange these with you and it will be helpful to have WELL Implementation Team members involved.
WELL and Education Research Alliance (ERA) have worked together to develop a delivery plan for WELL 2023-24.
ERA will be lead through Ashfield Junior School, with Sue Frost as Director and Patty Williams as Assistant Director.
This is an exciting next phase, with commitment from leading national evidence-based partners including the EEF, Evidence Based Education & Marc Rowland.
We are also delighted that positive conversations with Hubs and the two Councils are taking place to support coherence and alignment. Look out for further communications including press coverage!
Marc Rowland has shared a blog with us that you may find useful. Marc will be leading our Pupil Premium Workshops in November. As these are a grant requirement, please ensure that you sign up soon through the School Development Team.

Would you like to participate in Action Research in 2023 - 24?
Through WELL, engagement in quality Action Research enables the gathering and crucially, the sharing of relevant, rigorous, and rich evidence.
The Schools that participated in the Action Research strand in 21-22 and 22-23 found that this complemented their wider WELL-supported efforts to implement evidence-informed approaches, helping them to identify a baseline picture and to draw out and reflect on emerging implications for their practice and whole school leadership.
We encourage all current AR schools and new schools to join us in this key WELL element this academic year.
The following sessions are available this academic year:
1: Launch & Learning Session – Attend either 8th PM or 9th AM Nov 2023
2: Planning for evidence collection – Attend either 27th PM or 28th AM Feb 2024

4: Write-up session – Attend either 3rd July AM or PM
You can book onto these 4 sessions with the School Development Team or we have created an online form to sign up to all 4 sessions at once:
