Cumberland Council is digging deep to have a weed wipe-out in their patch!
Cumberland Council is informing residents, especially in the Carlisle area, that they are taking action against weeds.
Weeds are on ongoing problem for all the areas within the Cumberland patch, but this year has seen a significant increase in Carlisle. Favourable weather conditions have contributed to extensive plant growth, including weeds. Additionally, a delayed start in weed spraying occurred due to negotiations with the supplier to secure the best value for the council's investment.
You can report weeds and other issues on the highways on our website.
...and a reminder to residents how to apply for waste permits
We are also reminding residents how to apply for a waste permit, following a week-long operation.
Throughout this initiative, Cumberland Council Enforcement officers have been working alongside partners from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), Police, Environment Agency, and Trading Standards.
The Carlisle Enforcement Officer's role was to ensure people had the correct waste transfer note documentation, which can be obtained online.
Electoral Registration Annual Canvass
Local residents are being urged not to lose their voice on decisions that affect them by making sure their electoral registration details are up to date.
The annual canvass ensures that Cumberland Council can keep the electoral register up to date as well as identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.
Each year the council contacts every household to check whether it has the correct people registered to vote and to ask residents to inform it of any changes.
Look out for the email, text message or letter from Cumberland Council over the coming weeks asking you to check who we have on the register and inform us of any changes.
Transforming Workington: A £10 Million boost for the Gateway Project!
We're delighted to announce a £10 million investment boost for Workington’s transport, culture and regeneration.
Cumberland Council is delivering a new initiative, the Workington Gateway Project, funded by the Levelling Up Fund (LUF) and National Highways, to enhance the junction at Ramsey Brow and widen the A596 at Hall Brow to improve safety and help to develop the Workington’s economy.
Ramsay Brow junction currently restricts the length of vehicles that can pass through. In addition to causing safety concerns, this directs wagons through residential neighbourhoods. The improvement of the junction will reduce the impact of wagons, shorten journey times, and improve freight access to key industrial sites in the North Workington area.
