Shropshire care home and manager fined for providing unsafe care

Following the transfer of enforcement responsibility for health and safety incidents in the health and social care sector from the Health and Safety Executive and local authorities to CQC, a Shrewsbury care home owner and its former manager have been fined after admitting they failed to provide safe care. Improving the way we inspect care at home services

We have started reviewing the way we inspect adult social care services provided to people who live in their own homes following the launch of our new approach to inspections in October 2014. We would like your feedback via our online community on how we can improve our existing methods and any new ideas you think CQC should consider.

At the beginning of this month we published a report exploring the quality of care for people with diabetes in England. My diabetes, my care highlights that despite a mostly good picture 
of care overall, the provision of care and support to help people successfully self-manage their condition is not always flexible and responsive enough to meet individual needs.

Code of practice – confidential personal information

Following consultation earlier this year, we have published an updated version of our code of practice on confidential personal information. The code of practice explains how we sometimes need to use our statutory powers to look at people’s information during inspections and provides assurance that the information will be handled safely.

NICE invitation for stakeholders to register for new adult social care related topics

NICE are developing guidelines with an adult social care focus such as safeguarding adults in care homes; supporting independent living and preventing isolation in adults of working age with social care needs; and children and young people with disabilities and severe complex needs: social care support. They are giving organisations the opportunity to register to these topics and many more. Read more
