Mental health brief guides

We have published two new brief guides for inspectors about inpatient mental health rehabilitation services:

  • discharge
  • assessment, treatment and care

The briefs set out how the inspection team should gather evidence and report their findings, as well as giving information about regulation.

How do you monitor quality?

We are conducting a short survey of NHS trusts to find out if they are currently using CQC's quality framework as part of their own quality monitoring. The survey will take less than five minutes to complete and is available here.

We want to understand what NHS trusts are currently doing to inform our work to deliver a single shared view of quality – one of our four strategic priorities for the next five years.

Impact of Crisis Care report - your views

In June last year we published Right here, right now, a national report looking at people’s experiences of help, care and support during a mental health crisis.

We are now evaluating the impact our work has had on services for people who have experienced a mental health crisis, and would appreciate your views. If you'd like to share your feedback, our online survey can be accessed here

Updated guidance on factual accuracy

We have updated our factual accuracy guidance for inspectors, providing increased clarity and explanation. Factual accuracy is the opportunity for providers to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the evidence on which the ratings are based. Changes include an update of the form you will receive with the draft report which we recommend you use as this will help your comments be processed more efficiently. We will continue to review our handbooks for providers as part of our current approach to inspections. Read more.

New provider registration - apply online

If you are applying to register a new provider with CQC, you should use our online application system. Applications made online are twice as likely to be accepted as those made using Word document forms. We’ve also rewritten the online guidance to help applicants by pointing out common errors and how to avoid them. Read more.
