Flexible Working - handling requests in a reasonable manner workshop - 16 July 2014

Employment law currently provides employees who are parents or have caring responsibilities a statutory right to request flexible working. From 30th June this year, that right will be extended to all employees who have worked for the same employer for 26 continuous weeks.

To support our local businesses with these changes in the law on flexible working requests, we are offering a free half day workshop in partnership with Acas on Wednesday 16th July 2014 – 9.00am till 12.30 (followed by lunch and time to network) at the Welcome Centre, Coventry.

This workshop will cover:

  • Explain the different types of flexible working
  • Cover the Law relating to flexible working
  • Provide an overview of the new Acas Code of Practice
  • Explain the connection with discrimination legislation
  • Provide guidance on how to handle requests to work flexibly in a fair way
  • Explain how to develop a ‘right to request’ policy

Places are limited. Priority will be given to those businesses working towards the Workplace Wellbeing Charter then issued on a first come basis there-after. Confirmation of your booking will be notified via e-mail.

Health Champion meeting

The next Health Champion meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 2nd July 9.30 am till 11.30. The Macmillan’s Working through Cancer Business Offer

With more than 100,000 people of working age being diagnosed with cancer every year and more than 500,000 others having to juggle their work with looking after someone with cancer. Research undertaken by Macmillan has shown that employers can play a pivotal role in supporting people with cancer and their carers. Rebecca Elson, MacMillan Project Manager will give an overview of the Macmillan’s offer to businesses their range of resources to support employers and the awareness training available to staff.

We will also give an update on the national workplace wellbeing charter launched in June.

These meetings are organized on a quarterly basis, aimed at Health Champions and other coordinators delivering workplace activities or working towards the Workplace Wellbeing Charter to come along and share experiences, ideas and discuss topical issues to help embed wellbeing into your organisation.
