The Coventry Economy: Key Information - PDF
- The total number of residents in employment during the calendar year 2013 was estimated to be
141,200 - an employment rate of 67% compared to the national average of 72%.
The fact that Coventry is home to a high number of students is one reason why
the Coventry employment rate is lower.
- Until recently
there were few signs of the total number of residents in employment recovering.
This most recent data shows signs that employment amongst residents is starting
to increase.
- The Jobseeker’s
Allowance claimant count in April 2014 was 7,516, a notable drop of around 500
claimants since February 2014. This is a continuation of a decreasing trend in
recent years. Recently, the trend has been partly due to an increasing number
of claimants being subject to sanctions, which may have resulted in people
being discouraged from claiming.
-
New data gives an estimate that 30% of Coventry working age residents were qualified to degree level or higher in 2013 (England 35%).
- There were 57
empty shop units in the prime retail area of Coventry City Centre during the
first quarter of 2014 – a reduction from 60 in the fourth quarter of 2013.
