This newsletter contains the latest news and messages from Coventry City Council and information about local community groups and partners who are offering local support.
In this issue:
Welcome to this month's "bumper" bulletin. May is ended and with it a heatwave that seemed endless! June begins with cooler days and the eager anticipation of Carers Week and Learning Disability Week.
Carers week begins with the Carers Trust event at the CBS arena on 8 June followed by lots of different activities through the week. Please take a look and pop along. We look forward to sharing photos and details of how the celebration went, in next month's bulletin.
We have also included lots of information about support across the city, ranging from the Veterans breakfast to a green gathering at Fargo Village.
Thank you for all you do in caring for your loved ones.
Take care and we look forward to seeing as many of you at the Carers Week events and Learning Disability event.
A huge thank you to those individuals that we have spoken to in person as well as to the people who completed our online survey, and partners who have given us the time to visit groups and communities.
You still have until 31 May to participate in the survey and we will continue engagement as we develop the strategy. Every bit of feedback we've received will help.
Thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in being involved further with the strategy development. If you left your email on the survey we will be in touch in the coming weeks.
If you want to meet the team developing the strategy, we will be attending the Carers Week event at the CBS arena on 8th June as well as the Carers Coffee Morning during Learning Disabilities Week.
Thank you once again for sharing your stories.
Join us to celebrate carers week on Monday 8 June from 2pm to 7pm.
The event is taking place at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the Premier Lounge.
At the event you will be able to:
- Chat to our Day Break and regulated care team to explore our care and respite services
- Meet our adult wellbeing and young carers teams
- Talk to our community partners & find out what local support is available to you and your family
- Bring the whole family & enjoy arts and crafts, and much more.
Learning Disability week takes place from Monday 15 June to Sunday 21 June. This year's theme- " Do you see me?" - is all about people with a learning disability being seen, heard and valued.
Come along and meet Coventry City Council's Learning Disability Team to celebrate the week with coffee and music.
This event is for adults with a learning disability and young people with a learning disability who are preparing for adulthood, as well as residents of Coventry.
Inspired by Mencap Learning Disability Week, this event gives us the chance to come together to celebrate, meet the Adult Social Care Learning Disability Team, learn more about our work, and begin building connections for future co‑production activities.
The event is an opportunity to come together, meet the team and mark Learning Disability Week.
What to expect:
- Meet the Adult Social Care Learning Disability Team
- Enjoy Tea, coffee and biscuits
- Hear music performed by a local group
- Have time to talk, ask questions and share ideas
- Receive an invitation to a follow‑up event to support future co‑production work
Who can attend:
- Adults with a learning disability
- Families and carers
Important information
- Please book a free place through Eventbrite
- Refreshments will be provided
We look forward to celebrating Learning Disability Week with you and working together in the future.
Have you tried Bridgit Care, our online platform that connects carers with local support networks, services, and events, ensuring that they always have a community to rely on?
If so we would love to hear your feedback about what works well and how Bridgit could be improved to meet the needs of carers.
The Bridgit team will be in attendance at our face-to face event on Wednesday 24 June from 10am to 12pm at Cheylesmore Community centre, 111 Arundel Rd, Coventry CV3 5JL.

A group of young carers aged eleven and above, have recently been attending Warwick University to take part in a climbing programme in partnership with The Outdoor Partnership.
This is an 8-week programme, and our young carers have shown great bravery in embracing this new opportunity and challenging themselves each week.
At Pathways Family Hub this month our Focus and Flourish session centred around exam support and revision, providing support and encouragement to young carers currently preparing for SATs and mock exams.
Looking ahead to the rest of May, we have a Sky Blues Party planned at Pathways Family Hub to celebrate Coventry reaching the Premier League, alongside a scavenger hunt at Memorial Park during May half-term.
June is set to be a very exciting month for our young carers, with both Carers Week and the Young Carers Festival taking place!
As part of Carers Week, Carers Trust Heart of England will be hosting our annual event at the CBS Arena on Monday 8th June from 2pm to 7pm.
The event is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of carers and young carers, with this year’s focus being on “Building Carer Friendly Communities”.
The Young Carers Team will be there running activities including face painting, and Sky Blues in the Community will also be attending to deliver physical activity sessions.
There will also be two football stadium tours available for those interested in booking on.
A wide range of services and organisations from across Coventry and Warwickshire will also be attending to showcase the support available for carers and their families.
Later in the month, from 26 to 28 June, we will be taking a group of young carers to the annual Young Carers Festival in Hampshire for a weekend of camping and fun.
This two-night residential is the world’s largest gathering for young carers and provides an amazing opportunity for young people to enjoy activities, build friendships and feel recognised for their caring roles.
Alongside these larger events, our regular young carers sessions will continue across various locations in Coventry.
The sessions will take place at Pathways Family Hub on three Thursdays throughout the month, as well as two sessions at the AT7 Centre hosted by Sky Blues in the Community, offering young carers a positive physical outlet and opportunity to connect with others, especially enjoyable in the warmer weather.
 All age activities:
- Monday 8 June, Carers Week Community Event, CBS Arena (2pm to 7pm)

Being a carer often means putting the needs of others before your own.
While caring can be incredibly rewarding, it can also make it difficult to find the time and energy to focus on your own health and wellbeing.
At Healthy Lifestyles Coventry, we understand the challenges carers face and the importance of looking after yourself too.
Our free service supports Coventry residents to make positive lifestyle changes through personalised, one-to-one support from experienced health coaches.
Whether you're looking to stop smoking, manage your weight, become more physically active, reduce alcohol consumption, or simply improve your overall wellbeing, our team can help you set realistic goals and make sustainable changes that fit around your daily responsibilities.
Many carers tell us they want to improve their health but struggle to know where to start. Our health coaches work at your pace, providing encouragement, practical advice, and ongoing support throughout your journey. Support can be tailored to your individual circumstances, helping you find small changes that can make a big difference to your physical and mental wellbeing.
Our stop smoking service offers access to a range of free quit aids, including nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), vapes and varenicline where appropriate. We also provide support for healthy eating, increasing physical activity and reducing alcohol intake, helping people improve their health in a way that feels achievable and sustainable.
If you're an unpaid carer, or know someone who could benefit from support, we'd love to hear from you.
You can contact us by:
