Young Carers Action Day took place on Wednesday 11 March 2026, with the theme being 'Fair Futures for Young Carers', a call to ensure every young carer has the same chances to learn, grow and thrive as their peers.
Young carers often have so much responsibility on their shoulders. They need the right support to reach their potential.
On Young Carers Action Day we were joined by members of staff from the Young Carers team in Friargate alongside their mascot, Jerry, their “Bear2Care”, to share information and answer questions about young carers and the support they offer.
They bought with them some resources they use when working with young carers of different ages as well as a selection of leaflets and pens. Thank you. They then went on to several schools across the city to introduce Jerry, and as you can imagine he was a big hit!
Several areas of the city were also lit up in blue to show Coventry City Council’s commitment to supporting young carers across the city.
|
Young Carers Action Day 2026 was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to raise awareness of the young carers we support.
Some of the team spent the day travelling across the city visiting different schools to meet their amazing young carers. It was also a brilliant opportunity to launch our Bear2Care mascot, Jerry.
The children loved being able to share a high five and have a cuddle with him. The day also helped raise awareness within schools, with some assemblies taking place throughout the week to support schools in identifying any hidden young carers.

Bridgit Care recognises the complex challenges that unpaid carers face and their online platform is specifically designed to support carers throughout their caring journey, offering resources for personal well-being, employment, and financial guidance.
Bridgit also connects carers with local support networks, services, and events, ensuring that they always have a community to rely on, which is why Coventry City Council has commissioned Bridgit Care to support carers in the city.

Relationships Coventry and Warwickshire have a new free, confidential service for men in Coventry. Supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, it is a 3 year project.
AnchorPoint is providing free support for men in Coventry experiencing domestic abuse in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. Within our AnchorPoint project we provide counselling and emotional support and we are here to help.
Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) support, can be provided. We are currently only accepting referrals for IDVA support from MARAC. These are male victims considered high risk from Coventry.

Healthy Lifestyles Coventry continues to provide free support to help Coventry residents make positive lifestyle changes and improve their overall health and wellbeing. We recognise that carers play an incredibly important role in supporting others, and it’s vital that carers also have access to support for their own health.
Our team regularly delivers outreach across the city to make our services as accessible as possible. This includes attending community hubs, libraries, Job Shop sessions, healthcare settings such as UHCW Hospital and the Walk-In Centre, as well as local community and wellbeing events. These sessions provide opportunities for residents to speak with the team directly, learn about available support, and find out how they can take steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
One of our key areas of support is helping people to stop smoking through our Stop For Life service. Quitting smoking is one of the best things a person can do to improve their health, and our service offers personalised support to help individuals on their quit journey.
As part of this support, we are able to offer access to varenicline, a clinically approved medication that can help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms when stopping smoking. When combined with behavioural support from our trained advisors, this treatment can significantly increase the chances of successfully quitting.
Our team can provide one-to-one support, guidance, and access to helpful tools such as the Stop For Life app to support people throughout their quit journey.
If you are a carer and would like support with stopping smoking or improving your overall health and wellbeing, our team would be happy to help.
To find out more or refer yourself to the service, or call 0800 122 3780.
