The Annual Business Plan for 2026 to 2027 for the Strategic Energy Partnership between Coventry City Council and E.ON has been approved.
The partnership is continuing its focus on innovation to deliver affordability to residents, clean local energy enabling energy security in the city, jobs and skills opportunities and investments to benefit communities.
Through the partnership’s planned activities over the following 12 months, almost £10m will be invested in Coventry with an expected £2m of community benefit committed.
This will be through projects like improving the energy efficiency of homes and installing solar panels on rooftops on schools which will bring down bills, increasingly important at a time of global energy market volatility.
The Government’s new Local Power Plan marks the largest public investment in community energy in the UK’s history, with up to £1 billion being made available to support local clean‑energy projects.
The plan aims to ensure that every community has the opportunity to own and benefit from local renewable energy generation by 2030.
Crucially, the programme will provide direct funding for community groups, including grants for early‑stage development and loans to support construction, shared ownership and long‑term operation.
This means local organisations can access practical support - such as feasibility funding, expert advice, and help building capability - to bring projects like community solar and battery storage to life.
For residents, businesses and community organisations, this represents a significant opportunity to reduce energy bills, strengthen local resilience, and reinvest the profits of clean power back into local priorities.
Community groups are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest through Great British Energy to explore funding options and begin shaping their own locally owned clean‑energy future.
