This newsletter contains the latest news and messages from Coventry City Council and information about local community groups and partners who are offering local support.
In this issue:
Hello, as we come to the end of February, with eager anticipation I look forward to more sunshiny, blue sky days and less rain and puddles. March brings with it Young Carers Action Day on 11 March 2026 with the theme being 'Fair Futures for Young Carers', a call to ensure every young carer has the same chances to learn, grow and thrive as their peers.
Carers Trust are also holding their Spring Expo on Tuesday 3 March at Coventry Cathedral, they look forward to welcoming you to what will be an informative and fun event.
We have also included information about activities being held by the Alzheimer's Society, the Recovery and Wellbeing Academy and Myton Hospice.
We appreciate that winter brings with it worry around, fuel and food bills amongst other things. With that in mind we are sharing details about the Cost of Living hub where you can find information and support.
Many thanks for reading this month's bulletin. Take care.
We are at the very start of developing a local Carers Strategy, which will set out and define our key priorities for the next 5 years. We are keen to hear from carers and will be holding numerous sessions across the city to gain feedback, alongside launching a Carers Strategy engagement page, for people who might want to have their say virtually. On the site will be key documents and dates and there is a short survey.
Our engagement team will be attending the event at the Carers Expo, so if you want to speak in more detail about the strategy please come to see us.
This is a national statutory survey developed by the Care Quality Commission and the Department of Health and Social Care, and every Local Authority in England with social care responsibilities must take part.
The survey helps us understand:
- the quality of life of people who use our services
- the impact our support has on their health and wellbeing
Coventry City Council will be sending 3,000 anonymous postal questionnaires between January and March 2026 to a sample of people who use our services. Responses are confidential and will not affect the support or services people receive.
Completing the survey is important because it helps us improve services for the people of Coventry.

Join us at the Carers Trust Spring Expo on Tuesday 3 March, 2pm to 6pm at Coventry Cathedral, Priory St, Coventry CV1 5AB - a welcoming event celebrating and supporting carers. Discover information and advice from local organisations, explore interactive stalls and take part in fun activities.
For more information please email the team, or give them a call on 02476 632972 option 1. You can also find further information on their website.

Help us give young carers a fair future.
Young Carers Action Day takes place on Wednesday 11 March 2026.
Young carers often have so much responsibility on their shoulders. They need the right support to reach their potential.
We are calling for more recognition in school, access to training and employment, breaks, wellbeing sessions and more. We want to ensure every young carer has the same chance to learn, grow and thrive as their friends who are not carers.
|
Coventry City Council is offering a small pot of funding to support carers in the community to set up and run peer support groups for unpaid carers living in Coventry. This funding is to support carers of adults. Application for funding is through Carers Trust Heart of England.
This funding aims to empower carers to come together, share experiences, reduce isolation, and support one another in a safe, welcoming environment.
For more information please email the team, or give them a call on 02476 632972 option 1.

Following the Government's Down Syndrome Act 2022 it has launched its draft statutory guidance for consultation. This guidance describes the support that is available for those with a learning disability. It considers what practitioners in health, social care, education and housing services need to take to meet the specific needs of people with Down syndrome.
They welcome feedback from:
- people with Down syndrome and their families and/or carers
- people with other chromosomal conditions, genetic conditions and/or a learning disability who have similar needs (to note, this list is not exhaustive) and their families and/or carers
- organisations
- people who work in healthcare, social care, education or housing services
You can respond:
- as an individual
- on behalf of someone else
- on behalf of an organisation
It is really important that they hear the voices from people who this guidance will impact. Please do take a look and provide any feedback you feel able to.
The consultation closes on 30 March 2026.

We want to hear what Coventry residents think about the skills and training courses available in Coventry, so we’re sharing our Coventry Skills and Learning Survey 2026.
The survey asks residents what they think about the courses on offer, which typically include English, Maths, ESOL (English as a second language), digital skills and vocational courses such as childcare, construction, security, business admin and accountancy.
We run this survey every year to help us improve our offer, but this year’s survey includes the opportunity for feedback from those who have been on skills training courses in the last year too.
After completing the survey, residents will be entered into a draw to win a £50 Love2Shop voucher.
The survey closes for responses on Sunday 1 March, and the prize draw will take place on Monday 9 March 2026.

This month we focused on internet safety, friendship and healthy relationships.
We began the month at Templars, celebrating early pancake day. Toni made the biggest pancakes we’ve ever seen!
Later on in the week, we ran Focus and Flourish session for over 12s. We discussed healthy relationships and staying safe online. We also said a huge thank you and farewell to our student social worker Zuzanna. She has been an incredible addition to our service!
Our next session at Aspire was a movie night where we watched Toy Story and thought about what makes a good friend.
We were also invited to Salon 50 at Coventry City College for a pamper evening. Our young carers were treated to hair washing, hair styling, nail painting and hand massages.
We had a chilled and creative night at Aspire. We also played friendship bingo, which helped us get to know one another better. We finished off the month at the AT7 Centre playing different sports.

The rising cost of living isn’t just a headline, it’s a daily reality for many people across Coventry - particularly those living in low income households.
The price of everyday essentials such as food, clothing and energy continues to rise faster than household incomes, placing a real strain on those already living on the tightest margins. For many people this isn’t a temporary squeeze, it’s a persistent pressure that affects almost every aspect of life.
|

In partnership with SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS), Coventry Education Psychology Service (EPS) will be running a free online session for parents/carers on Emotion Coaching.
Session details:
- Tuesday 3 March 2026, 9.30am to 11.30am
- delivered ‘live’ via Microsoft teams (please note this session will not be recorded)
What is Emotion Coaching?
Emotion Coaching is an approach that parents/carers can use with children and young people to support their emotional development.
Research suggests that Emotion Coached children and young people:
- are more emotionally stable
- are more resilient
- achieve more academically in school
- have fewer behavioural problems
This session will introduce the steps of Emotion Coaching and its scientific basis and will involve practical activities and resource sharing so that parents can begin to use this increasingly popular approach straight after the session.
Would you like to know more about adult carers and young carers?
If so we have two courses that are available to help increase your knowledge. Both courses are free and you can access them in your own time. Please take a look and we hope you find them helpful:
It’s simple! Just add your email address in the top right hand corner and click GO!
You can also sign up or view previous bulletins from our Carers' website.
If you have any comments or wish to contribute something to the next bulletin, please let us know by contacting us at carers@coventry.gov.uk.
