Plans to improve walking, wheeling, and cycling between the city centre and Tollbar End are now available with:
- 1km segregated cycleway along London Road
- Upgraded junctions with toucan crossings and smart signals
- Safer crossings at key side roads
- Enhanced bus stops
The Council are also seeking views on whether the current right-turn ban at Chace Avenue should remain. These changes support a continuous safe cycle route linking Tollbar End to the Binley Cycleway and into the city centre.

Work has now started on a new cycleway along Humber Road, improving links between Coventry city centre and Tollbar Island.
The route will run from the ASDA roundabout to Binley Road, with the first phase between ASDA and Terry Road roundabouts, continuing in stages until mid-2026.
Key features include a segregated cycleway, new crossings and improved junctions, and lower speed limits and safety upgrades for all road users.
This is part of our wider plan to make it safer and easier to walk, wheel, and cycle across the city while keeping traffic on main routes.

Work to extend the Coundon cycleway is now complete, creating better links to Coundon Park, Keresley, and local schools. The route now features a new segregated cycleway with surfacing, lighting, benches, bins, and grass planting to make it safer and more inviting.
Cardinal Newman School pupils recently tried out the new section, saying it feels smoother, safer, and encourages more cycling and walking to school.

We have partnered with Trojan Energy to deliver a trial of a cross-pavement home charger, providing a safe and convenient solution for at-home charging without a driveway.
The flat charging unit, installed outside residents’ homes, sits within the pavement and is powered by their own electricity supply, with no installation costs. It’s safe and accessible, designed to keep pavements clear and avoid trip hazards.
If you are interested in the trial, visit the webpage below for more information on how you can complete a short application form.

Work is underway on Phase 2 of the Clifford Bridge Road cycleway, with construction beginning from Monday 20 October.
A southbound closure is in place between the A46 roundabout and Brinklow Road (near St. Bartholomew’s Church). A signed diversion via Walsgrave, A46, and Brandon Road will be in place. Access towards the hospital is unaffected.
Work is expected to take up to 9 months, so please allow extra travel time if this is your regular route. You can view the Road Safety Audit and our responses for Phase 2 on the project webpage.

Many Coventrians may know of the hidden River Sherbourne beneath the city centre — but a section of the river is now open at Palmer Lane.
A rarely exposed stretch of the river has been transformed into an attractive, accessible riverside space, featuring new landscaping, seating and lighting for everyone to enjoy.
The project will create a new public destination where people can relax and reconnect with the city’s natural and historic heart.

A new segregated cycleway and shared crossing at Juniper Park are now open, making it safer and easier to walk, wheel and cycle in the area.
The work includes a 3-metre wide cycle path, an upgraded parallel crossing on Woodridge Avenue, and drainage and planting improvements to enhance the route and encourage more greenery.
The Eastern Green development continues to progress, with new homes, employment space and a school under way.

Four School Streets – at Ravensdale, Southfields, Stanton Bridge, and Cardinal Wiseman – are now permanent after a successful trial year with strong community support and clear benefits like reduced traffic and safer school journeys.
In April 2026, three more schools will join the programme:
-
Holbrook Primary (Gateside Road and Crown Green)
-
Limbrick Wood Primary (Bush Close)
-
Aldermoor Farm Primary (Pinley Fields)
Consultation starts early next year, with plans finalised by late 2025. The next phase is backed by £120,000 in funding from national travel programmes.

The Canley Ford cycleway and new crossing are now complete, making it safer and easier to walk, wheel, and cycle between Canley, Cannon Hill, and the University of Warwick.
Upgrades include a new toucan crossing over the A45 and a cycle zebra crossing on Cannon Hill Road, improving safety and connectivity for everyone.
It is part of Coventry’s plan for greener, more sustainable travel, and the route is now fully open for use.
