This newsletter contains the latest news and messages from Coventry City Council and information about local community groups and partners who are offering local support.
In this issue:
Welcome to this month's bulletin. It is so lovely to see the signs of spring starting to appear, snowdrops popping their heads up and daffodils and tulips poking through the soil to say hello.
We have included information about the online platform Bridgit which is specifically aimed at supporting carers. Young Carers Action Day is fast approaching and we look forward to hearing what they have done to celebrate the theme of "Give me a break".
There are lots of activities taking place across the city, so please do take a look and see if there is anything that takes your eye. They look forward to welcoming you.
Take care and thank you for reading.
We would also like to say for those who celebrate, we hope Ramadan fills you with peace, love and joy.
|
Bridgit Care recognises the complex challenges that unpaid carers face and their online platform is specifically designed to support carers throughout their caring journey, offering resources for personal well-being, employment, and financial guidance. Bridgit also connects carers with local support networks, services, and events, ensuring that they always have a community to rely on, which is why Coventry City Council have commissioned Bridgit Care to support carers in the city.
|
Young Carers Action Day takes place on 12 March 2025 and this years theme is "Give Me A Break".
We know Young Carers take on a huge level of responsibility within their caring role and this can impact on them emotionally, psychologically, physically as well as affecting school and friendships. They need time out to recharge and focus on themselves. This could be taking part in a group, hobby or spending time with friends. Whatever they chose they need a break.
The ‘Give Me A Break’ theme also highlights the needs for education, professionals and employers to give them a break by providing more support, understanding and the opportunity to succeed alongside their caring responsibilities.
You can find out what support the Young Carers Service provides by visiting their website .

We kicked things off this February by recognising Children’s Mental Health Week at our Wellbeing Wednesday session where young carers explored ways to relax and express themselves, thinking about personal growth and using art to explore their feelings.
Our Focus & Flourish group continued to support young carers in Year 9-13 with their studies, it’s a busy time of the year with GCSE’s coming up!
Our sessions at Moat, Mosaic, and Woodside Family Hubs gave young carers a space to connect, have fun, and feel supported. We enjoyed making healthy granola pots this month, thinking about food hygiene and the importance of handwashing when handling foods. The pots tasted delicious!
|
February also saw some fantastic special events! Our Pamper Night at Coventry College was a big hit, offering a well-deserved evening of relaxation for carers aged 11 and over. The smiles from our young carers were priceless! Thank you to the students for making it such a memorable night.
|
Meanwhile, our Teen Trip to Tenpin Bowling gave carers aged 13-17 a fun afternoon out, there was plenty of healthy competition and lots of laughter!
For those who love the outdoors, the Adventure Away from Home Day at Brandon Marsh provided an exciting escape into nature. Learning skills such as fire lighting, den building, Nordic braiding and of course the most important- how to make the perfect toasted marshmallow!
|
Sporty young carers got active with Sky Blues Multisports at AT7 Centre, and we made sure there was something for everyone with our online forum—a safe space for young carers to have their voices heard.
|
With so much happening, February has been full of opportunities to unwind, have fun, and connect. We can’t wait to see what March brings!

Do you have a separate day/night tariff for your electricity?
On an Economy 7 or Economy 10 tariff?
The Radio Teleswitching Service is being turned off on 30 June 2025!
An Radio Teleswitching Service meter is a type of electricity meter that was brought in over 40 years ago. It uses radio waves to send signals to your meter, which allows it to switch between two different energy prices at different times of the day.
If you have a Radio Teleswitching Service meter, then you could be at risk of:
- Your electric bill doubling
- Your heating being turned off or stuck on
Call your energy supplier today to ask if the Radio Teleswitching Service switch off will affect you. Doing nothing puts you at risk!
You may receive SCAM letters, phone calls or text messages around this.
Only contact your supplier through the phone number stated on your bill.
If you are unsure of whether to trust someone, then you can contact Act on Energy for free on 0800 988 2881 and we can provide the correct details for your supplier.

In partnership with SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS), Coventry Education Psychology Service (EPS) will be running a free online session for parents/carers on Emotion Coaching.
Session details:
- Wednesday 5 March 2025, 9.30am – 11.30am
- Delivered ‘live’ via Microsoft Teams
What is Emotion Coaching?
Emotion Coaching is an approach that parents/carers can use with children and young people to support their emotional development. Research suggests that Emotion Coached children and young people:
- Are more emotionally stable
- Are more resilient
- Achieve more academically in school
- Have fewer behavioural problems
This session will introduce the steps of Emotion Coaching and its scientific basis and will involve practical activities and resource sharing so that parents can begin to use this increasingly popular approach straight after the session.

To book your place please email the team or call 024 7669 4307 quoting ‘EPS’ along with your name and the email address you would like your link sent to.
