Whooping cough cases are increasing as vaccine uptake has fallen in recent years. UKHSA are urging parents to check that their children are vaccinated.
Whooping cough is a notifiable disease, an outbreak is defined as 2 or more confirmed cases within 42 days where transmission is likely to have occurred in the setting. National guidance recommends that confirmed cases are excluded from the setting for 2 days after starting antibiotics, or 21 days from symptom onset if no antibiotics are taken.
Please contact the West Midlands UKHSA Health Protection team on 0344 225 3560 for further information. UKHSA will lead the outbreak response and will organise contact tracing if necessary.
