The AYM Awards Programme
Awards for Young Musicians (AYM) supports talented young people from low-income families, helping them to overcome financial and social barriers they face to progression.
They offer up to £100,000 in grants each year to exceptional young musicians whose families are on a lower income. They provide flexible funding towards musical costs (like tuition, instrument costs or travel) plus individual support to cater to personal circumstances. This could be anything from mentoring and workshops with professional musicians, the chance to observe them perform, free tickets to concerts and performance opportunities. They currently have funding particularly aimed at supporting young musicians in the West Midlands region and so would value your support in sharing the following information so that as many young people as possible know about the opportunity and can apply for a grant should they need it.
The Awards programme is both inclusive and means-tested, allowing young people to get the right level of support based on their own circumstances. Our key criteria are musical talent and financial need, meaning whatever genre the musician plays, they can prove their eligibility without having to have taken formal exams.
For more information, or to talk about the Awards Programme in more detail please get in touch with Sarah Barton-Wales, AYM Partnerships Manager.
To share information about the Awards and to signpost a young musician you work with to apply, please see the following information, links and attachments that can be shared with teachers, families and young people:
Video Resources – These video resources have been created with Alumni Award winners about the application process and the Awards themselves. They are helpful to share alongside the images and information as they really explain it from young people who have been through the process.
