In September 2023, the decision was taken by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to postpone three publications until November 2023:
- Mid-year population estimates (MYE): June 2022
- Rebased population estimates: 2012-2021
- Revised UK international migration statistics: 2012-2021
ONS tells us that this postponement ensures consistency in the statistics which are made available, avoids potential confusion and allows the ONS to produce the best possible statistics.
On 23rd November, these statistics will be released by ONS alongside the latest long-term international migration estimates (June 2023). They will also be publishing supporting information including methodology and research updates.
National Population Projections (NPPs) will follow. The provisional dates for these are:
- 2021-based interim NPPs (using Census 2021 and latest international migration estimates and new assumptions) - January 2024
- 2022-based NPPs (using the latest census data (including from Scotland), new assumptions and a range of variants) - October / November 2024
- Subnational population projections (SNPPs) release (England) - Early 2025
Please see the ONS release calendar for updates.
